My Experience with the DSS @OfficialDSSNG (Department of State Services) -PART ONE
I want to clearly state that this is my personal experience and account.
On the night of April 30th, after days of being blindfolded and held by some unidentified men who initially claimed to be from the DSS β but whom I later discovered were not DSS officials β I was eventually taken to a DSS facility.
At the time, I was still blindfolded and handcuffed. After arriving at the facility, I heard someone instruct that my blindfold should not be removed until we were inside. Shortly after, the blindfold was removed, and for the first time in days, I was able to see properly again. My vision was initially unclear but gradually improved.
The officer who received me spoke calmly and assured me that I was safe. He asked if I knew where I was, and I replied yes because I could see the DSS logo on the wall. He noticed I was shaking and visibly traumatized, and he tried to calm me down. At that point, I was extremely scared and confused because I still did not fully understand my situation or why I had been taken in the first place.
That same night, I was given tea and bread β the first proper meal I had eaten in days. I was also taken to the medical unit where my blood pressure and general health condition were checked to ensure I was medically stable.
Afterwards, I was taken to a room with other detainees and provided with a bed and duvet. For the first time in days, I was able to sleep comfortably.
The following morning, the investigation team began questioning me. Because the matter is still before the court, I will not go into details about the investigation itself. However, based on my personal experience, the DSS officials I interacted with treated me professionally and respectfully throughout my stay. Nobody shouted at me, physically assaulted me, or used force against me during the period I spent there.
They also ensured that I had food and basic care, and I was even asked if there were specific meals I preferred during the process. I also observed that officials handling my case remained active on the matter, including during weekends and public holidays.
From my own experience, I can say that the DSS demonstrated professionalism in the way they handled me. At the same time, no institution is perfect, and like every agency, there are areas where improvements can still be made β particularly regarding the speed of investigations and certain administrative processes.
Again, this is strictly my personal experience and should be understood as such.
@afalli Economic deterioration as the likely culprit. As poverty increases, the poor tend to turn on one another. Of course, the ruling class (political and religious) are happy to misdirect.
@Sweeegu Question is: in so-called 'standard industries', is backend pay negotiated or imposed by fiat? If negotiated, what's stopping Nigerian actors from negotiating what they think they deserve? Why should it be a matter for legislative or regulatory injunction?

She is still a nursing student at Ezzy college of nursing, Enugu.

@NewsomCA@afalli Isn't it the bank account and BVN (which is linked to plethora of other personal data) that the CBN should be "tracking", not an associated phone number? Or am I missing something?
With this move, phone numbers effectively become national means of identification...???
If we answer these questions honestly and truthfully, our discussions on the subject will naturally become more balanced and constructive.
It is also worth reflecting on this: if the conclusion of the Egbe Amofin process had favoured a different aspirant, would the reactions and comments we are seeing today have been the same?
These are reflections that speak directly to the principles of fairness and justice which we all uphold as members of the legal profession.
For clarity, I did not found Egbe Amofin. Like many colleagues, I met the organisation in existence and has participated in its activities as a member. Our appearance before the body during consultations was based on invitations which was voluntary, and we all engaged with it within the context of broader discussions around zoning and micro-zoning within our Association.
As a firm believer in democratic engagement, my consultations across the country have been extensive, open, and continuous. Even after the conclusion of the Egbe Amofin process, I have continued to engage meaningfully with colleagues across branches and interest groups of our Association.
The Nigerian Bar Association remains a noble institution whose strength lies in unity, fairness, and respect for its processes.
As we continue these conversations, I encourage all colleagues to approach them with the civility, restraint, and professionalism that define our calling as legal practitioners.
My commitment remains to the progress, unity, and institutional strength of the Nigerian Bar Association.
At the end of the day, all power belongs to God.

Here is the thing: the reason Daniel is not ashamed to share this train wreck of an interview is that he knows that Nigeria does not reward ethics. It does not reward shame. Nigeria is where shame goes to die. Nigeria does not reward morality. The only crime in Nigeria is poverty. And so he works for his supper the only way he knows how. This interview will do nothing to dent his already battered image. Just like Tolu Ogunlesi. Who insulted you over seedless grapes. Just like Reuben Abati during Jonathan. This too shall pass and Nigerians will forget and he will one day win elections in his local government and become a Federal Representative or Senator. Or become a well paid commentator. Daniel as odious as he is, is only a mirror of what Nigeria allows. He will be fine. His children will be fine. And he will never lack friends in and outside government.
@OmolewaAbraham@Mrpossidez You needlessly travel down a worn path. Both views already agree that petitionary prayer is likely predominant among adherents. The point of dissent is whether that constitutes the bible's sole or primary framing of prayer. Your data bears no relevance to that.
@MazeDaMouth ""The first mis-step is he goes from
βThe most common kind of prayer has always been petitionβ to βItβs the only definition that makes sense given the attributes assigned to Godβ."
Smiled at the leap by @Mrpossidez. Even he must have noted that illogicπ
Kudos to you both!
