Actress Kim Hyeyoon sent her warm congratulations to Ilgan Sports on its 57th anniversary. Coincidentally, 2026 has also been a year filled with “good news” for Kim Hyeyoon. She challenged herself with new genres, achieved box office success, and continued moving from one project to the next without much of a break, expanding her range as an actress.
This year, Kim Hyeyoon has been continuously meeting audiences through No Tail To Tell, Salmokji, and Good Partner 2 which is set to be released in the second half of the year. Although the genres and characters have all been different, they have allowed Kim Hyeyoon to showcase an even wider range of sides to herself.
“It has been a very exciting and fulfilling year for me because I’ve had the opportunity to play characters with different charms in various projects and show many different sides of myself. My schedule has been very busy without much time to rest, but I genuinely enjoyed the process of becoming a new character on set. Above all, I’m grateful that I’ve been able to meet and greet viewers and audiences more often through these different projects.”
Among them Salmokji, which was released in April made Kim Hyeyoon’s 2026 even more special. The film attracted approximately 3.24 million moviegoers, receiving tremendous love from audiences. It was also her first leading role in a film and her first major challenge in the horror genre and she went on to achieve box office success.
“When I first received the script, I was simply grateful for the opportunity to challenge myself and try acting in a new genre, horror. But so many people came to theaters and gave the film more love than I ever expected, so every single day felt almost unbelievable. I was incredibly grateful. I thought that I should never forget this gratitude and continue challenging myself with various genres and characters, becoming an actress who can repay that love through good performances.”
Salmokji even set a record as the highest grossing Korean horror film of all time. Beyond its box office achievement, the film was especially meaningful to Kim Hyeyoon because she discovered a new side of herself.
Although she had always considered herself a very fearful person, she unexpectedly discovered a sense of bravery while filming the horror movie.
“I’ve always been someone who gets startled easily, even by small sounds, so I grew up thinking that I was a very timid person. But once I actually started filming the movie, I discovered that I wasn’t afraid at all. I realized, ‘Oh, I’m actually less scared than I thought.’ I came to understand the thrilling appeal that only the horror genre can offer. If I’m given another opportunity, I’d definitely love to challenge myself with horror again.”
Kim Hyeyoon’s activities have continued even beyond the screen. During the promotional events for Salmokji, she enthusiastically participated in various memes and challenges prepared by fans and audiences. Her interactions quickly spread across social media and became a hot topic.
“I usually try to keep up with popular memes. I thought I was pretty knowledgeable about them, but the memes and challenges that fans and audiences brought to the promotional events were much more diverse. There were so many I had never seen before, and sometimes I only understood them afterward. If I get another chance to do promotional events, I want to work harder so I can pull them off perfectly.”
