I remember resuming for my undergraduate studies at OAU, and my dad told me, "Just do well and finish with a 2:1."
I was secretly offended. In my head, I was thinking, "Why aren't you telling me to finish with a first class? Are you underestimating me?"
I carried that feeling around for about a week. I did not say anything.
Looking back, I realize it wasn't a lack of belief in me. He simply trusted me to do my best without putting pressure on me.
I eventually graduated with a first class.
OAU undergraduates of today won't know that there was once a festival of food that held on campus in 2018. For one week straight you could eat whatever you want for FREE. Some of the food I saw and ate that period, I've never seen them in any food vendor again 😂
In 2006, during my Pre-degree year at OAU, I was part of DLCF.
For reasons I'd rather not go into, I couldn't continue once we moved to the main campus, but that one year was full and impactful.
I attended both the December and Easter retreats for 2006/2007 at the campground near Ipetumodu.
Amazing times.
Amazing relationships.
Amazing values that quietly became habits I still carry.
That season forged something in me, a strength that helped me navigate university without caving to pressures.
It also helped me to stay focused on my dreams even when opposition came from unexpected places.
I can only be grateful for that year. And for this man who was bold enough to stand for something unpopular.
Happy birthday, Grandpa W.F.
We really appreciate you. 🤍
@bsong_HR@TalentFactoryHQ One of my friends saw a tweet about someone looking for a PR assistant and sent it to me.
They asked us to do a report on top publications in Africa and I used my knowledge of reporting from my time as Director of Publicity in JCIN OAU and got the role. It was 40k/m🤣🤣
A Federal University that has existed for 65 years should not be struggling this much with transportation within its own campus. I'm wondering how they got here?
OAU Students were sent home, resumed weeks later, and the issue is still here.
That's the part I don't understand.
When leaders don't accept mistakes, the system will make him accept mistake...... we are trying to bring more improved Sabo Lagere to join the fleet of those vehicles.... and apologise on behalf of all of us - OONI OF IFE
50 Sabo Lagere buses to resume operations on OAU Campus on Monday.
@FSYusuff Saying you've never seen SOT contribute to school only shows you haven't followed her activities closely. Beyond scholarships, educational materials, nd support for schoolgirls, she donated 21 shuttle buses to OAU Ile-Ife, as the first phase of a 50-bus pledge.
We were privileged to meet Slome X yesterday on OAU campus🔥. He’s so humble that he allowed us to take pictures with him. God bless you Slome X😭🙏🏽. Make I go frame this picture for my room. Celeb 😭🙏🏽
Tosin (co-founder/CEO of Moniepoint) and I were same set in Ife (entered 2001). Razaq co-founder of Cowrywise a year our junior (2002).
I finished in 2006 because I studied a 4-year course. Tosin and Razaq finished in 2007 because Tosin studied a 5 year course, Razaq 4.
I didn't know Tosin in Ife. Razaq and I were close.
Now, Tosin's company, Momiepoint, has just committed N1 billion to building an innovation hub in OAU.
I can't wait for my own company, Jarus Homes, to also become big enough to be able to commit N1 billion into our alma mater alone.
Well done, Tosin @Eniolorunda
PS: I think OAU 2000 - 2010 guys really cooked. Apart from Moniepoint and Cowrywise, Jobberman, Seamless HR are other top tech companies founded by OAU guys of that era. Any other popular one?
