"...the core of the challenge is that the surface combatant fleet needs to be expanded beyond ‘the answer is always 12’. How that is to be done is a different question to whether Australia should acquire corvettes or not." @JAParker29 👏 https://t.co/17YSOwDMRq
@Fandango831 We would probably call it a 'River' class and reuse historical names like:
HMAS Torrens
HMAS Swan
HMAS Parramatta
HMAS Derwent
HMAS Yarra
HMAS ....
etc.
@Fandango831 Happy to be proven wrong, but the CEAFAR mast seems way too small relative to the rest of the ship. I know ANZAC is not a big hull by modern standards, but something doesn't seem right with this. see link to artwork by @SWDWilliam

@SWDWilliam@JAParker29 9-12 I.e. an RN style destroyer flotilla with rule-of-three refit cover. Was what the Admirals wanted at the end of WWII. They never got it, and 12 somehow became the guide stick for the major surface combatant OoB thereafter. It has never worked and has no basis in strategy.

'Infrastructure isn’t simply a transport or construction issue. It’s a foundational determinant of productivity and national power. Nations grow stronger when they reduce friction across their economies', writes @johncoyne14. https://t.co/IEL3Vipugp
Genius British diplomacy at work - regardless of the occupant of Downing Street (or the White House), the UK-US relationship is too important not to be fought for and upheld.
KING CHARLES III: "There was one particular AUKUS predecessor, launched from a UK shipyard in 1944 that served for the majority of her life attached to the 4th Submarine Squadron in Australia playing a critical role during the war in the Pacific. Her name? HMS Trump — so tonight, Mr. President, I am delighted to present to you, as a personal gift, the original bell which hung on the conning tower of your valiant namesake. May it stand as a testimony to our nation's shared history and shining future." 🇺🇸🇬🇧
@hot_rails@DrewPavlou Would need a high-cap, low cost and bullet proof energy grid - another discussion entirely. Nuclear-baseload civil power would make it possible.
@hot_rails@DrewPavlou Good quality o/night services plus 6-ish hr day services at a decent frequency would achieve a lot. Euro 160-220kph standard upgrade to existing routes with select deviations (electrified if possible).
Looking forward to presenting tonight at the @AIIANational Victoria on the implications of a contested maritime domain for 🇦🇺.
Some food for thought........
@TrentTelenko The Spru-Cans and Ticos also had VLS cells between them, are those/were those over 4000 VLS cells being salvaged, reconditioned and brought back in to the fleet?
@Gabriel64869839 That’s a lot of boom in one package. What happened to distribution of lethality so that you don’t lose as much in one hit if and when something gets hit?
@FennellJW@gazc550 Love the I class option. Also consider;
Furious
Courageous
Glorious
Foudroyant
Thunderer
Conqueror
Replace ‘rocket’ with ‘Retribution’
