Eating carbs slows down your metabolism
While eating fat + protein increase it
The findings of a new meta-analysis looking at resting energy expenditure (REE) after weight loss
So, low-carb diets work partly bc they literally increase your metabolism while you're losing weight.

Need a reason to avoid seed oils?
Consider this…
Seed oils contain benzene (known carcinogen), hexane, heavy metals and phthalates (hormone disruptors).

The lipid hypothesis is flawed and incomplete. Not all ‘elevations’ of ApoB carry increased cardiac risk.
If ApoB causes atherosclerosis then why do these recently released results show ZERO difference by CCTA (CT coronary angiography) between a cohort of keto dieters with elevated LDL (average 272 mg/dl for 4.7 years) and an age matched control group from the Miami Heart study with much lower LDL levels (average 123 mg/dl)?

I’m not a fan of ketogenic diets in general, but this is an interesting cohort of people to study and it helps shed light on limitations of the lipid hypothesis.
Here’s my take:
ApoB containing lipoproteins are NOT the major driver of atherosclerosis, and they do NOT cause atherosclerosis. They are involved in the process but do not cause it.
Insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction do. This is because of the ways they impair endothelial repair, efferocytosis (clearance of apoptotic cells), and immune processes involving macrophages in the subendothelial space.
Major hat tip to @realDaveFeldman for being the driving force behind this study.

Have you ever had Bone Marrow?
A true superfood, it’s loaded with collagen, which improves the health and strength of bones and skin. And it’s also rich in glucosamine, a compound that relieves joint pain, and reduces inflammation in the joints.
It is also buttery & delicious!
Salt has gotten a bad rap, despite the fact that it:
- Promotes insulin sensitivity
- Improves metabolism
- Reduces stress hormones
- Supports overall hormone balance
Throw out the iodized table salt and get some high-quality mineral salt!
Linoleic acid (the primary fat in seed oils) has multiple fates, with a primary outcome being the production of 4-HNE. This paper (linked below) reinforces the evidence that 4-HNE contributes to metabolic problems, including #insulinresistance, by limiting the ability of subcutaneous fat to proliferate (i.e., make more fat cells; "hyperplasia"). This may seem like a good thing, but by limiting hyperplasia, any pressure for the fat cells to grow must now lead only to hypertrophy (i.e., growth of the cell). Hypertrophic fat cells undergo two important adaptations: 1. They become insulin resistant to prevent further growth (after all, insulin is the primary growth signal on fat cells); 2. They become inflammatory in an effort to increase blood flow to prevent hypoxia ("suffocation of the cell"). These two adaptations, both of which are intended to help the hypertrophic fat cells survive, end up spreading insulin resistance throughout the body. Back to the study: The authors find that even modest elevations in 4-HNE are sufficient to cause these changes. As much as I'm an advocate of eating fat liberally, focus on natural fats: animal fats and fruit fats (e.g., olive, coconut, etc.). https://t.co/pUEvVFmxZC

3 servings of refined grains per day and unlimited sugar is part of the official government guidelines for schools. Tell me that is not setting our children up for obesity and diabetes.
A fantastic book on diabetes, including how people can ' reverse' this disease and be liberated from medications, often in just weeks.
Truths you will not find out from the @AmDiabetesAssn
New report: Harvard leader Willett recently had a paper linking red meat + diabetes. Yet this idea has been refuted in clinical trials. Why does Willett persist?
This investigation finds the answer in a mixture of personal ambition, bad science, financial interests and personal bias.

The next iteration of the #DietaryGuidelines has excluded all trials on weight loss. Why?
Currently, the adult obesity rate in U.S. is 42.8%. How can Guidelines be effective if they ignore most Americans?

People w/ obesity who contract #Covid19 are:
113% more likely to be hospitalized, 74% more likely to go to ICU, and 48% greater risk of death
This is shocking.
https://t.co/G2YKo0W1fP
We can still keep the pressure on Congress until the #DietaryGuidelines are issued at year’s end.
We need a national nutrition policy that addresses ALL Americans, not just those in good health.
Take Action here: https://t.co/BUGWvHGeTg
“Obesity may be one reason some countries or communities have been hit hard by #Covid,” say researchers. In the US, the obesity rate among adults has climbed for decades--now at nearly 43%.”
