Let's talk about the healthcare legacies of Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi. Everything no be road construction. 🫩

Tinubu's healthcare legacy in Lagos was largely institutional - reforming health administration, strengthening regulation, improving hospital governance and expanding healthcare systems in a rapidly growing megacity.

Nothing is wrong with that.

But what it tells me is that his emphasis has always been more on administration than on the physical healthcare infrastructure ordinary people actually experience.

Even as President, that pattern appears to continue.

In 2024, the health sector was allocated ₦1.23 trillion, yet the Minister of Health disclosed that only about 15% of the Ministry's capital budget was released for health infrastructure projects.

In 2025, the health budget increased to ₦2.48 trillion, yet by February 2026, the same Minister told the House of Representatives that only ₦36 million out of the Ministry's ₦218 billion capital allocation had been released for capital projects. 🫩

You can announce trillion-naira budgets all day long, but if the money needed to build hospitals, equip facilities and improve healthcare isn't released, Nigerians won't feel the impact.

Now compare that with Peter Obi's record in Anambra.

His healthcare legacy was infrastructure and service delivery.

✅ Constructed and upgraded over 200 primary health centres and general hospitals.
✅ Rehabilitated over 150 community health centres and general hospitals.
✅ Constructed over 50 new hospital wards.
✅ Built 10 Maternal and Child Care Centres using the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation immunization award and counterpart funding.
✅ Equipped hospitals with modern diagnostic and medical equipment.
✅ Supported mission hospitals through direct government intervention.
✅ Made Anambra one of Nigeria's leading states in routine immunization, earning recognition from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
✅ Did all these while keeping Anambra among Nigeria's least indebted states and leaving substantial cash and investment assets behind.

That's the difference.

One focused primarily on systems and administration.

The other made sure ordinary people could actually see and use better hospitals, better equipment and better healthcare services.

For the Nigeria we have today, I know which approach I would rather have. 👌🏽
