Our Hong Kong General Manager, Beifang Ji, recently joined the roundtable “Going Global via Hong Kong: Connecting with New Belt and Road Opportunities” during the 11th Belt and Road Summit week in Hong Kong.
The discussion brought together leaders from business, payments, technology and professional services to exchange perspectives on Hong Kong’s role in supporting companies going global, as well as the payment, treasury and compliance foundations businesses need when entering new markets.
Beifang shared a clear view: business models can evolve through iteration, but payment infrastructure and compliance need to be built from the start.
As companies expand across Belt and Road and other global markets, managing multiple currencies, payment rails, regulatory requirements and local partners becomes increasingly complex. Hong Kong can play an important role in connecting these capabilities and supporting long-term global operations.
Through Obita Mesh, our global open payment network, Obita connects payment rails, currencies and channels across markets to provide enterprises with more unified support for global payments and fund operations.

Enterprise Lens | Think Local, Scale Global
Expanding globally often requires businesses to operate locally.
Each market brings its own currencies, payment preferences, banking systems, and settlement processes.
For businesses entering multiple markets, accessing local payment capabilities is only the first step. The bigger challenge is connecting these different payment environments into a scalable operating model.
A company expanding across Southeast Asia, for example, may need to manage multiple currencies, local payment rails, and financial partners while maintaining consistent global operations.
Building global payment capabilities is therefore not only about adding more payment options.
It is about creating infrastructure that helps businesses collect, convert, manage and move funds across markets.

Obita Market Notes | Local Rails, Global Ambitions
Cross-border payments are expanding in an interesting direction: more domestic payment systems and local forms of digital money are looking beyond their home markets.
In Hong Kong, Anchorpoint has begun the first phase of its regulated HKD stablecoin rollout, with HKDAP initially entering institutional and commercial applications, including payments and settlement.
In Brazil, the central bank is taking a more concrete look at connecting Pix with instant payment systems abroad, through both bilateral links and multilateral payment hubs.
And across BRICS, central banks are discussing potential links between their fast payment systems and CBDCs as part of efforts to improve cross-border payments.
Different markets. Different rails. A similar direction.
Cross-border payments may become more global by connecting more local infrastructure.
For businesses, that creates more ways to collect, settle and pay across markets. It also means more currencies, liquidity arrangements, compliance requirements and payment paths to coordinate.
The next challenge is increasingly about making those choices work together.
