Executive Officer @hannahpierce01 emphasises the serious need for government-led regulation of alcohol marketing.
“Currently the alcohol industry is writing its own rules & reviewing complaints. It’s a classic case of the fox guarding the henhouse.”
@FAREAustralia
It’s absolutely devastating to learn of the loss of Prof Kyp Kypri.
Kyp was such a wonderful human & an incredible researcher & advocate who was passionate about preventing alcohol harm & removing commercial interests & lobbyists from policy making.

Absolutely heartbroken by Kyp Kypri's death after a cycling accident in New Zealand on the weekend. An incredibly kind, fun, energetic, caring and rigorous colleague and a brilliant friend - the @KBSconf football game will never be the same
Day 1 of the intensive bargaining we won through #UnimelbStrikes, @UniMelb already failed the one thing they promised to do - to have a proposal on Job Security. They've had years to work on this!
Walking out of was the right thing to do. They need to treat us seriously
After our historic strike last week, Vice Chancellor Duncan Maskell's team met us at the bargaining table today with NO PROPOSAL for secure work, so we walked out. https://t.co/2UGpYREdxt #unimelbstrikes
Final day of the current week-long #UnimelbStrikes and we’re still on the soft picket in front of the law school - come chat to us! We have music, dogs, pancakes and @seantcooney is getting the message out in Mandarin: “The Law School is striking to protect teaching and research”
Thank you, @AEUfederal for this powerful letter expressing your 'strong support and solidarity' with us!
"...without your work, there simply is no university worthy of its name – it simply would not exist."

Thank you to @MelbLawSchool Dean Matthew Harding for showing your support to our members today at the soft picket in front of the Law Building! We know you're with us.

Ironically the ‘corporate box’ aka Melbourne Law School is the home of a highly unionised and extremely creative bunch of people who have done amazing things this week to make the Uni the way it is supposed to be #unimelbstrikes
Come along to the Arts picket tomorrow at 10am at Arts West. We'll be joined by @janet_rice Let's tell @ArtsUnimelb that they need secure jobs and fair workloads #unimelbstrikes
A quick snapshot of my teach-out on histories of creative protest for #unimelbstrikes@NTEUUniMelb@unimelb this morning feat. The AIDS quilt - Franklin river protests - knitting nanas against coal seam gas - B.U.G.A.U.P 1/2
It was an absolute privilege to address striking members of @NTEUVictoria at Melbourne Uni together with students supporting them. It’s tim to end the illegal university business model of casualisation & wage theft.
“We love this university, and we love what we do. We want to be able to support our students but we’re prevented from doing our jobs properly.” ➡️ Understaffing = unacceptable delays in students getting help
— Stop 1 staff telling why they’re on strike

“There is something management can do. Come to the bargaining table. The wildest thing is that it’s in their interest.
“They are going to lose these people. There isn’t an indispensable supply of us. We are very valuable resources.”
