So today you opened X and everyone is getting a Rolex (Mitch got 2)
20 Rolexes were distributed, 11 went to KOLs
It's time to address those questions:
> Who really got a Rolex and who is larping?
> Were KOLs statistically advantaged?
Check the table and the experiment 🧵
La Révolte
On 17 October, more than half a million people marched across France over the cost of living and the state of their schools. Students and unions led the marches. By the next morning at least 1,800 people had been arrested, and more than 500 police officers, gendarmes and firefighters were hurt. In Saint-Étienne, a 17-year-old lost his hand to a crowd-control grenade.
I watched it the way most people did, through a phone. Videos with no date. Places with no name. A street on fire, then a post saying it wasn’t. If you were in Rennes or Clichy that night, it was hard to know what was happening two streets away, and harder to know what was true.
I’m a developer, not a journalist. So I built the thing I wished I’d had. One map of France where every report points back to the article it came from, and every photo or video points back to the person who posted it. When something can’t be confirmed, it says so.
Right now it holds more than 500 reports from 367 news outlets, and 240 photos and videos people have posted from across the country.
I built it for the people living through this. For the student deciding which way to walk home. For the parent trying to find out what happened outside their kid’s school. For anyone who wants the record kept straight: the looting and the arrests, the injured officers and the injured protesters, in one place.
It’s free and there’s nothing to sign up for. Keeping it that way isn’t. Running it costs money, and the next features cost more: real headlines written from each article, a longer memory than three days, more sources from the ground. I’ll be looking for ways to fund it, so it can keep growing and keep helping the people it was built for.
