We are a broken nation. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians were living and working legally, paying taxes, and contributing. Haiti remains completely unsafe.
But Trump hates Haitians, and the White House wanted videos of Black people in chains, so they stripped them all of status.
I get it. People love talking about presidential rankings. But all of the commentary about who was left out, who ranked higher than whom, is a distraction from the fact that the sitting president — during a war, in the lead up to the midterms, during a period of great anxiety — is casually posting about how he’s the greatest president ever. I get that defenders think it’s brilliant because it’s trolling. That’s pathetic in its own right. But a president trolling about how awesome he is when his approval rating is in the low 30s isn’t smart, clever, or wise. It’s sad and disturbing.
I still can't get over this.
Thirty years ago, someone calling their country "the Roman Empire" would have set off alarm bells among ALL the dispensationalist premillennialist evangelicals. Hal Lindsey would be frothing at the mouth. Tim LaHaye would work it into a novel.
Canadian firefighters poured into New York after 9/11 to help with search and recovery efforts. 159 Canadians died fighting on behalf of the US in Afghanistan. This crap from the White House is stupid and embarrassing and shameful, and long-term will hurt the US the most.
It's also heartbreaking. Canada isn't just an ally, it's our sister nation; not just a neighbor, but historically, family. Trump has no ability to discern one country from another. To him, they're all just colors on a map, and matter only whether they like him enough.
The WSJ Editorial Board SLAMS Trump:
“President Trump took exception last year when we called his tariffs against Canada and Mexico the dumbest trade war in history. It got dumber this weekend as Mr. Trump escalated with another round of border taxes on Canadian imports…
One reason for Mr. Trump’s frigid approval rating is that voters believe Mr. Trump is waging blunderbuss wars without a strategy, and on trade they’re right.”

The President of the United States said that de-transitioning surgeries are being done on his personal orders and no one has paused for a moment to wonder if any rational person would say something so completely and feverishly crazy - because it's just part of the new normal.
If you're a middle-aged man and you need your wife to keep you out of trouble, that's nice (if somewhat disturbing) and God bless that kind of loving relationship, but you shouldn't be the Secretary of Defense.

I find it darkly humorous that the Vance folks are furious about a “very online,” “campaign,” and/or “op,” against him. Don’t you understand that real Americans like him!?
Never mind that Vance & Co. have been the most terminally online, twitter poisoned, faction of the Trump administration. He’s the “keep the cat memes flowing” guy, when it comes to demonizing Haitians legally in Ohio. But posting clips of Vance explaining his economic theories on TV? Cheap shots!!!
@Jeff_Palouse@Midge52469@douglaswils While I was typing my first comment I also remembered that he wrote a novel about a sex robot, and the novel in turns describes it provocatively, then violently kills it. I had somehow memory-holed this.
George Washington rejected the idea of a massive presidential palace. The White House was deliberately scaled back because the president of the United States should not live like a king.
234 years later, Trump is posting Versailles fan fiction starring himself.
@Midge52469@Jeff_Palouse@douglaswils It’s also entirely possible this is a fictional narrative/fantasy created in his head. I can see Doug filling with glee over the idea of a “reviling” woman getting therapy from a divorced woman who empowers her further, and the righteous anger he could squeeze from that.
Imagine if Kamala Harris became the first female president of the United States and then tore down the East wing, obsessed about a ballroom, started a losing war with Iran, took away health care and food from children, raked in billions, fired everyone to put her friends in their positions, fell asleep on camera consistently, mouthed off on social media, openly prosecuted people she didn’t like without real cause, started a slush fund to fund domestic terrorists, and generally lied every second of the day. She wasn’t even allowed to laugh.
I'm sorry, I can't get over this. The most powerful person on earth is using the full force of government to jail a 67-year-old over an error his *own administration* oversaw. It is the epitome of government "weaponization." Mind-blowing hypocrisy. It's unconscionable.
