If you stay in Nigeria, you are losing something. If you leave Nigeria, you are losing something. It is up to you to decide what you are comfortable losing.
y'all ever feel like your mouth is stupid but your mind is smart? like you're intelligent but you can't express it when you're speaking? it's so frustrating
Simi gave her daughter one of life's greatest gifts—a love song, timeless & everlasting.
Duduke will be her companion through the years—at 10, 20, 30, and beyond. With every listen, she'll feel her mother's pure, unbridled love. Love immortalized in melody.
Isn't that surreal?
@sewistwrites “Flush and wash and be on your way” NO, DANIEL. “PULL UP YOUR PANTS and flush and wash.” No one in your class should see your private parts. Sincerely, a preschool teacher
and the problem runs deep. this is not restricted to conservative communities.
there are so, so many married moms are hanging by a thread.
and there are a lot of men who simply do not care. /8
and the reason i will never shut up about this is that these men do not fall neatly into one political ideology, belief system, or socioeconomic status. there are republican blue collar guys who do more for their wives than the "progressive" men clickety clacking on emails./6
the problem with communities that promote these kinds of relationships is that there is very little discussion on what to do if you end up in a relationship with someone who uses his power to dominate and control./3
something I don't talk about often is that as someone who grew up in conservative & religious circles, I have seen "traditional relationships" that have been thriving and healthy. and the common denominator was men who saw "leadership" as a call to always put their wives first./2
🧵 here is the thing about the ballerina farm and the women who end up in similar relationships:
is she oppressed? or is this exactly what she wants?
the answer depends *completely* on the men being good men. because the women (often voluntarily) give up their power. /1
It's weird that we talk so much about a "loneliness epidemic" but we don't really talk to people about how to make friends or why they are not making friends.
So, a few things.
I've said this before and people get very angry about me — but something has to replace smoking.
I think many women would love to occupy a softer, more “feminine” energy, but funnily enough, it’s being in relationships with men that make you “masculine.” You have to demand what you want and learn to distance yourself emotionally if you don’t want to be eaten alive.
Each summer my parents put on "Cousin Camp" for the grandkids.
For the past 8 years, they invite all the grandkids age 5+ to spend 4 days on the farm, away from parents, with their cousins.
My mom goes all out making it feel like a genuine summer camp:
-bedrooms turned into cabins
-pledge of allegiance
-arts & crafts
-kitchen duty
-talent show
-music time
-swimming
-campfires
-field trips
-sports
...and the list goes on.
Even the oldest 3 cousins who are 'too cool' to be campers are involved - they're "Junior Counselors"
It culminates with a "program" on Sunday afternoon when parents get to see all the things they did.
Our girls talk about it, and look forward to it, all year long.
And the parents enjoy the weekend respite as well...
Just very thankful for them willing to put in the effort so the cousins can create these memories.
Whenever someone says they’re a child of immigrants, they should have to disclose whether we’re talking about like a child of asylum seekers or a child of the reason someone else had to seek asylum. I feel like that gap is pretty important.
One thing I wasn’t prepared for as an adult is dealing with /working with /interacting with people who were raised on survival & not love. People who were raised in a dog eat dog household.
If a person was fiercely competing with family , how do you think they will handle you ?
