Historically, much of the gender gap in earnings could be explained by differences in education and occupational choices.
However, 2023 economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin showed that the bulk of this earnings difference is now between men and women in the same occupation, and that it largely arises with the birth of the first child.
Goldin was awarded the prize for advancing our understanding of women’s role in the labour market. She has given us a deeper understanding of the factors that affect women’s opportunities in the labour market.
#IWD2024
This International Women's Day #IWD2024, let's spotlight systemic inequities — like Canada's inexcusable 17% gender pay gap — and work not just with data but activism, empathy, knowledge, & wisdom in positive change processes — AKA #systemicdesign
On average across OECD countries, women earn 11.6% less than men.
The gender pay gap has decreased over the last two decades but is still present.

I didn't sign "the letter".
Current AI poses lots of risks, but describing these systems as "ever more powerful digital minds" that no one can control is likely to make the problem even worse.
What's needed: more transparency and better public discourse.

"After poring over the injunction cases, we found that 76% of injunctions filed against First Nations by corporations are granted, while 81% of injunctions filed against corporations by First Nations are denied."
One of the most pernicious and dangerous metaphors is to see the organisation as a human body. Senge popularised it, but it doesn’t handle the complex & open ecosystem which we dealing with and it encourages people to position themselves as the brain and others as limbs
