This is our last chance.

Democracy won’t survive the return of a wannabe dictator.

And it won’t overcome evil if we are divided.

So what do we do about it?  We have to take today into tomorrow – take it outside these walls.   We have to reach out to the half of our country who have ignored the hazards of Trump and, for whatever reason, support elevating him back into the White House.  They’re not stupid, and we must not condemn them for making a stupid choice.  Our future doesn’t just depend on us. It depends on them.

Let’s reach out to Trump’s followers with respect.  Let’s not talk about “democracy.” 

“Democracy” may be our holy grail, but to others it is just a word, a concept, and in their embrace of Trump, they’ve already turned their backs on it.  Let’s talk about right and wrong.  Let’s talk about humanity.  Let’s talk about kindness.  Security for our world.  Safety for our families.  Decency.  Let’s welcome them back.  We won’t get them all, but we can get enough to end the nightmare of Trump.”

Para quien anda diciendo que hay plagio en mi tesis de licenciatura con un trabajo previo de Lepeliere y Christiaens, es absolutamente falso: explico: Si vemos con cuidado, la fórmula que se presenta en el trabajo de Lepeliere y Christiaens, solo se propone, no se deriva. En mi tesis, se hace un análisis del flujo y la caída de presión en la zona de transferencia para obtener (con argumentos de mecánica de fluidos y termodinámica) la misma fórmula del trabajo de Lepeliere y Christiaens. Aún así, como el trabajo de estos autores es de 1983 y mi tesis es de 1988 hago lo que debe hacerse en cualquier trabajo académico: cito varias veces a estos autores (incluso desde la introducción). Ahora, las fórmulas son iguales porque viene de los principios básicos de conservación de la masa, momento y energía con los que debe analizarse el flujo en una chimenea. Por lo demás, la originalidad de la tesis radica justamente en usar ésta y otras ecuaciones para hacer el análisis termodinámico de una estufa de leña que desarrollamos como estudiantes de física en la comunidad rural de Cheranástico, en la meseta purépecha en Michoacán, donde trabajé por varios años mientras estudiaba. La primera parte de la tesis es aún más interesante, pues muestra la comparación estadística del ahorro de leña en unidades energéticas, entre las tres piedras y la estufa eficiente de leña. Estos datos son únicos. pues todos los días personalmente visitaba diferentes viviendas y pesaba la leña que se usaba para hacer tortillas en las tres piedras tradicionales y la comparaba con la leña que se usaba en las estufas eficientes que hacíamos de forma artesanal. El ahorro es sorprendente, además, el humo sale fuera de la cocina y no hace daño a la salud de la mujeres. Recientemente visité la comunidad de Cheranástico. Las imágenes están en las redes sociales. Para terminar, quien inventó lo del plagio, claramente no tiene ni la menor idea de lo que es el trabajo académico.
