It's like poetry. A truly perfect depiction of how this class of "educated" psedo-middle-class Nigerian clowns live inside their own imaginary reality while problems that the rest of the world solved by the late 19th century are still intractable here.
I remember saying a while back that the steam shovel technology that was used to build the Panama Canal in the 1800s is still beyond Nigeria today. Nigeria cannot dredge the Niger River in Onitsha without awarding the contract to a European/American/Chinese/Arab company that will be paid with forex.
It is impossible to build a 25-storey building anywhere in Nigeria today in 2024, without paying dollars to hire a foreign contractor or paying dollars to import basic parts like reinforced steel beams and elevator units.
The overwhelming majority of Nigerians in existence today have never experienced 24 unbroken hours of power supply. Of all countries with populations exceeding 120 million, Nigeria has by far the greatest share of its population still not connected to the Internet.
These low hanging fruit are STILL unsolved, but you will never notice any shortage of suit-wearing, English-speaking asshats going on TV to yammer pointlessly about "AI" and "Robotics" and "Machine Learning" to an audience that didn't eat that morning.
Super proud of the @StearsBusiness team for taking things to the next level with the launch of our mobile app (available exclusively to Premium subscribers for now).
Love the video, love the app, love everything.

To navigate the coronavirus crisis, businesses must prioritise resilience over growth and efficiency. That means preparing for what is possible. The Stears Data team has published a report on Covid-19 and the Nigerian economy.

Despite being the largest economy in Africa, the Nigerian Government generates less taxes than Angola (12.5%), Kenya (16.3%), and South Africa (27.3%). https://t.co/LQQwDOfD8T
We hope that you enjoy the Stears Election centre. Remember, we will be updating the site with more data over the course of the week.
“In God we trust, everyone else must bring data.”
And on election day, we will be live updating the site with real-time results from the 2019 elections. The Stears Election Centre will be the ONLY place to get all the results from the Presidential and National Assembly elections in this way!
Today, we launch the Stears Election Centre, motivated by a simple idea: to share accurate election data as far and wide as possible.
Here is a thread on Why We Built It.
