@Terrilltf Isn't it horrific how their graveyards, their churches are so sacred, yet our sacred sites are merely obstacles to bulldoze highways through, to erect parks on, to expand golf courses on?
@The13thBird It's actually infuriating when Latin Americans are like 'uhm no we didn't kill/culturally genocide our Indigenous Population, it was the US, it was the Europeans, it was the (((Israelis))), it was the IMF...'
@sea_jay17@Cazzy I know you're talking about place names like xʷtatəl̓ləm ʔə ƛ̓ səltaɬ sme:nt -- i get the point and i think those are silly too (because no one will use them, they'll just use the english) but names like Nch'kay are reasonable yet face the same pushback.
@sea_jay17@Cazzy Yes, but people who want indigenous place names 'only if spelled in an easy and friendly way way!' don't actually want Indigenous people to name things in our languages; they want cool and easy names that use our languages as decoration
@sea_jay17@Cazzy There are many indigenous language alphabets with no non-Latin characters that people make the same complains about (in BC and in Canada) so that's not the actual issue
@patternscreamr2@blacknihilism Outsider thinks they can dictate our systems of governance, but in a totally leftist way that is different than how the settlers do it. More at 11.
@hammersmithing What matters most to me is continuing to bring the median Canadian over, to have the standard opinion be that genocide occurred, recognition of our rights, etc, and idc about the extremists. They have nazis in Germany still, & they've done the best* modern reconciliation.
@hammersmithing But, it's also a symptom of flawed education that focuses too much on residential schools (as opposed to the rest of the settlement and genocide) and doesn't prevent the development of hateful voices. We can and must do better.
@hammersmithing Ultimately I think that this aggressive denialism is a consequence of the attempt to mobilize education of the Canadian public about residential schools. It's a counter-culture thing, which is why you don't get it as much America - they don't even educate about it.
@sadcatsblues Ironically, the inaccuracies in this (retracted) text are probably due to lazy writers being influenced by American misinformation about native history in the US as opposed to deliberate propaganda.
