@AgileJebrim When you go out on a date with your wife, do you bring other men with you for competition? Just in case some of them might fuck her better?
@bert_onstott@PatrikkBateman6@bryan_caplan Obviously the 5 million new immigrants would expand the economy and create new jobs, but the legacy New Zealanders would still be relegated in socioeconomic status.
Why would any country do this to its own citizens?
@bert_onstott@PatrikkBateman6@bryan_caplan New Zealand has 5 million people. They could draw from the pool of 8 billion people in the world and replace EVERY SINGLE New Zealander with a more qualified foreigner in order to boost their economy.
Questions to ask: Why would they do that? What is the purpose of a nation?
@MAGnaNimUS_pius@TheCinesthetic "harass, threaten or frame them"
Ironically this has also become a Hollywood trope that doesn't actually depict reality that well
"We need to draw on the whole world for talent to stay at the center of things"
This is somewhat true but at some point you're gonna have to ask:
Who is we?
The fact is, America has only 4% of the world's population. You can't be the center of the global tech industry if your talent pool is only 4% of the population, no matter how talented that 4% is.
We need to draw on the whole world for talent to stay at the center of things.
@SocDemFan @sebscard@Angelica_Reed1@DrAllyLouks By definition "loved ones" are more valuable to you than those who are not your "loved ones"
That's why you call them "loved ones"
@ArmandDoma When you were young and asked a girl out, did you bring all your friend with you so they could also try to court her in case one of them was better than you?
@CovfefeAnon@paulg Whether ability is evenly distributed or not is not even that relevant. If I ask a girl out, I don't bring my homies with me just because some of them might fuck her better. A nation-state exists for its people, like my relationships exist for me and the people I want in them.
@airkatakana Suppose there's a war. A country gets invaded. Who do you think are more likely to fight and die for that country instead of fleeing? The natives or the immigrants?
(hint: it's not the immigrants)

you're american because of the circumstances of your birth, immigrants are american because of their intentional effort
