Glory to God!
The Inaugral edition Abuja Apostolic Camp (AAC) opened up last night with a terrific time before the LORD.
We gather again today. From 1pm to 5pm to seek His face and burn incense.

ON TEACHING, CORRECTIONS, CALLING OUT....
I have been thinking about these issues for a while.
I remember telling my brother once that I became very intentional about how I use my social media platforms because I only want to be known as a BIBLE TEACHER and preacher.
Corrections of false doctrine will need to be made frequently, but I'm not primarily a correcter.
I am a teacher.
Someone reached out to me one time about how to "grow" my social media platforms, especially X, by being controversial and posting banger takes.
But, my point is I'm not trying to grow my account. I'm trying to be a faithful teacher of God's word.
We will need to correct false teachings and sometimes, with a lot of courage, call out false ministers.
But if we primarily teach the bible, when we correct, our voices will be heard and treasured. If most of what we are known for is corrections, when we legitimately have to correct, our voices will be trivialized.
I am not a social media commentator. Not primarily at least. You may be. I am not.
Everyone must know what they are and abide in the calling wherein they were called.
I am a bible teacher, not a talkative. I will not speak to everyone trend. I will not correct everything that needs correcting. I will not call out everyone who needs calling out.
I will be a faithful teacher and be led by the Holy Spirit on other matters.
I do not claim to have exhaustive knowledge on these matters, but I think this is how bible teachers should posture themselves.

He must hold firmly to the faithful message as it has been taught, so that he will be able to give exhortation in such healthy teaching and correct those who speak against it.
For there are many rebellious people, idle talkers, and deceivers, especially those with Jewish connections,
who must be silenced because they mislead whole families by teaching for dishonest gain what ought not to be taught.

As you do business with every word that was spoken, may you walk in their fulfillment with ease and speed. Shouts of grace will not cease in your lives in Jesus' name.

MINISTRY... YOUNGER PEOPLE
Every year, during MiS, we invite an elder to teach and minister to us. We seek to learn from their experience acquired over decades of walking with the Lord. We expect them to tell us a lot of how they've seen God's word play out. Experience.
I see younger ministers trying to do the same a lot these days. I see people starting out in ministry focusing on 'firing people up' to make an impact, or to pray prayers, or to be disciplined. It is very effective, short-term. It may even be some form of spirit-coated motivational exercise unto good works. I get it. But I think it is inappropriate. Leave that work for elders. And do it very sparingly. If you are young, bury your life in the scripture. Exegesis. Hermeneutics. These should be your obsession.
Teach the scriptures. Expound it. Teach it raw. Let stories and illustrations be scanty in your delivery. Aim for naked mastery of the word. No toppings, no garnishing. If you are young, you don't have the breadth and the luxury for that sort of unhinged, even if fiery protocol. Yrs, i know that it is tempting to go that exciting route, because it usually sparks prayer. Young audiences go ga-ga at such deliveries and it might even make you popular. But your soul, your soul, o man of God, will be lean. Your asernal will have petrol, but not rocks. Your word-store will be emasculated, and your doctrine will be flippant and emotional.
You will start to depend on 'inspiration' a lot, and you will start to commit doctrinal blunders frequently.
You may have fire. But you will lack wood to keep that fire burning. Your ministry will spark people, but will hardly ground them. We build with doctrine, unembelished doctrine.
If you are young, leave the elders to 'speak', leave 'talk' for them. If you are young, labour in the word, in doctrine. Let those who hear you be burdened with untempered excavations from the word. Be meaty. Just keep at the word. Stay with scriptures. Let most of your statements be clear explication of the text of scripture before you.
I will say more later. And when I do, I will still end with this paraphrase from a wise man: learn to read the lines before attempting to read between the lines. Till then, stay with the 'lines'.
"And He said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." Matthew 21:13

ALCOHOL
Nobody ask me, but make I talk... Saint, avoid alcohol. That's my serious admonition. I forbid alcohol for me, for our community, and for the children whom the Lord has given me, biological and otherwise.
Now that you are clear about my stance, journey with me.
Let's not make The Way narrower than God has made it. And let's not make it wider than God has made it.
If God says don't eat. You should teach that God says don't eat. Don't misrepresent God, like Mama Eve did. Don't say God said don't touch, even if you don't want to touch. Say what God says. We are not wiser than God.
Once you accurately represent God, you can go on to derive practical guidance and wisdom from God's position. Culturally and pragmatically, there are overwhelming reasons to not indulge in alcohol at all. Even if for your witness in our society. And you know, you'd lose nothing as a teetotaler. Rather, you will gain a lot in this climate, financially, emotionally, health-wise, and so forth.
Moreover, in this clime, alcohol does not exist in a vacuum. People who drink have a public image/profile, in the consciousness of our society (that image/profile is a generalization, but a reasonable one). Now, that general profile of people, men and women who drink alcohol, does not honour the gospel. Because they are considered irresponsible, immoral, etc, and if they are Christians, they are considered unserious, carnal Christians. Too much needless baggage for our witness in this corner of the globe.
Not taking alcohol does not violate any biblical law, so it is okay to make it your rule and a rule for your Christian community. What is not okay is to misrepresent God.
For many valid reasons, I forbid alcohol. But I know God forbids drunkenness. My own logic is: I can never be drunk if I never drink. So, while God forbids drunkenness, me, I don't trust me, so, I forbid drinking. But I know who forbids what.
NOT-SO-FUN FACT
The last time I tasted an alcoholic drink was in church. Communion.
I had no idea the wine was unapologetically alcoholic. It burned as it went down my gullet.
Wei, next Sunday, I figured there is a non alcoholic corner for teetotalers like me. So, thereafter, I started going there for my own sterilized wine ๐ during communion.
I loved that at least the church makes provisions for people of weak conscience like me.
I know who forbids what. And I forbid alcohol. Me, yes.
I agree, I no strong.
IGNORANT LEGALISTS...
You had a 'leading' to pray an extra 2 hours in the morning. "Somehow," you postponed it in a clear act of disobedience. However, you kept telling yourself you'd make up at night.
Then, you run into a case. He has been afflicted for 8 years but believes that if you pray for him, he'd be delivered. Suddenly, everything becomes interesting. You make a connection... "Maybe this was what God wanted me to be prepared for when He prompted me to log in 2 extra hours this morning." And phufff, your confidence, your faith begins to leak. Ever been there? I bet yes.
Well, the main issue is not that God needs your praying two hours to set the oppressed free. That's not the issue per se. Issue is, you feel, because it is true, that you are in disobedience. Disobedience is the issue. Disobedience is normally not compatible with the sort of faith you need in the situation.
Therefore,
If you go ahead to pray and the victim is not delivered, you'd most likely blame it on your disobedience or on your deficit in prayers. Remember those (disobedience & prayer deficit) are two different things. But let's proceed.
On the other hand, if the victim is delivered, you may think you probably didn't 'hear well' when you thought God led you to pray extra, OR that obedience is not such a big deal, because mercy always comes to the rescue. And if God does not help you here, you'd start out on a journey of no return into arrogant spiritual irresponsibility and corruption. Because you'd disobey many more times, and 'things' would happen.
Consequently, you'd forget that first, God making things happen is 'one thing,' and you living in disobedience is quite another. You'd forget that the one thing is not an affirmation or even a trivialization of the other thing. You'd be too fascinated by your newfound, secret hack. You'd be lost in that deceptive fascination, too lost, to retrace your steps.
Gradually, you'd start to look down on the saint who are still walking the straight path of obedience by grace. "If only they know what I know." you'd gleefully think to yourself. "They think it is by obedience and all these legalistic compliance," you would quip. And you may be right. But you will be more wrong, colossally wrong, because "it" is not by disobedience either.
You are a disobedient child of God, even though God, for a time, may do what He does (by you). You're on a treacherous road. Surely, you will not like where the road leads, in the end.
Disobedient prosperity. This is the tale of so many, today.
Like the command against greed, pride, stealing, etc, we have a command to "Flee fornication." But many apostles, prophets, and minstrels live in reckless immorality while purporting to be servants of Jesus. Well, 'things' are happening. So, they think they are special. And the rest of us are ignorant legalists.
A little admonition:
Obey God, first and simply because YOU SHOULD. Forget results. Obey.

A patient may be dying from a septic limb yet refuse the amputation that could save their life. The doctor knows the likely end, but still honors their choice. The principle of autonomy in medicine is a glimpse into Godโs omniscience and His deep respect for human will.
CALVIN'S CORRUPTION & SEEKERS
So, we had an indoor evangelistic event on Saturday instead of the usual Doctrine and Power. During Friday's session, which was preparatory to Saturday's event, I taught on our double need/obligation โ as saints โ to seek the Lord and to seek the lost. We even themed the weekend SEEKERS.
Meditating and preparing for the weekend brought me into particular reconsideration of soteriology, and that's how Calvin(ism) came into focus. I mentioned on Friday evening, while preaching, how much I disagree with aspects of TULIP. Next day, and during the evangelistic meeting, like 'out of nowhere,' I began to sense that apart from saving, it was Godโs plan and will to heal the sick that evening too. That's how cessationism came into the mix.
Busy week/end came to an end, and I popped on Twitter with snippets of my ongoing thought and meditation from the week/end. I made posts about Calvin(ism) and cessationism - the two issues that had been in focus over the weekend. Enters CT mind-readers.
Saints on CT Naija jumped on their keypads to accuse me of picking on Calvin BECAUSE they were dragging my 'friend', while others said my posts were part of a tactic to take attention away from my 'friend'. The assurance, the confidence with which they imputed motive to my post was both befuddling and unfortunate. Someone said I was being 'sly'. Now, these are saints speaking with such confidence as if God had directly told them why I made those posts, since I didn't. Saints were quick to jump on the worst case scenario possible, to explain my posts.
Thereafter the fireworks staggered from unnecessary arrogance, to veiled insults and all the way to charge of theological illiteracy (we don't read... even when we are right, it is by accident, etc). And why? Because they said I (we) must not be allowed to distract the conversation away from my 'friend'. Saints!
Calvin is not infallible. Everybody agrees to this in theory. Theoretically therefore, he could have been wrong on any number of things, either because of personal liabilities or environmental (cultural, social, civil) context. Theoretically, we must all agree on this. But inconsistencies happen. So that, what we believe theoretically may be different from how we behave in practice.
Opposition to Calvinism is as old as Calvinism itself. Therefore, there's nothing new here to see, in that sense, with my disagreement with it. In fact, I will argue that historical and informed Calvinist soteriology is deeply flawed, not just because it misrepresents biblical soteriology but because it obscures and misrepresents WHO God is โ per His nature and character. Again, I am not the first person in history to observe that the many doubles in Calvinism (for instance โ and in layman's terms โ like: LOVE does not mean love, like that... WHOSOEVER does not mean whosoever, like that... ALL does not mean all, like that, etc) are biblically unwarranted in many doctrinally consequential cases.
Calvin's contemporaries observed these needless hermeneutical devices, during his lifetime. To posit therefore that to disagree with Calvin's soteriological framework and the misleading sophistry with which it has been fabricated amounts to wholesale denial of the merits and legitimacy of the reformation โ the reformation that led to the break from Roman Catholicism โ is an inordinately awkward position. There is no world where disagreeing with Calvin's soteriology must necessarily mean that one is taking sides with Roman Catholicism. But these are the positions that saints have advanced in this season, here on CT Naija.
Explicitly or tacitly, we can strain out the gnat of definitional exactitude while swallowing the camel of doctrinal corruption. So, we can get hung up over how much 'Paliggenesia' is in sozo, while we gloss over how much sozo is in Christ. These are the sort of corruption that can creep upon a soul once allegiance to a system competes, even if it does not surpass allegiance to God and His revealed word.
God draws people. Yes. God's prevenient grace is attested to in scripture. sure. But our argument is, these (are) pre-regeneration acts of God (and) are (biblically) not irresistible. God 'appoints' people to eternal life, but the question is 'on what basis?' How you answer that depends largely on your hermeneutical grid and presuppositions.
Calvinism as I see it, and as many eminent saints and theologians, mystics and martyrs through the centuries have observed, is deeply misleading in it's soteriology. And I will contest that academic Calvinism is farther from scriptures than the popular version in practice (thank God). And, we could say the exact opposite for historic Pentecostalism.
The bare bone of my first post stands. John tells us that: "Jesus did many other signs... which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may BELIEVE that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may HAVE LIFE in his name." And,
Jesus Himself said: "you refuse to come to me that you may HAVE LIFE." Both meaning that Faith precedes Regeneration. That is: believing, aka, coming to Jesus, precedes having life, aka, regeneration.
Faith, the condition necessary for God to regenerate a sinner, does not come by regeneration. Faith comes before regeneration.
You may argue. You may disagree. You may ridicule and insult. They are all within your right. But to claim to know why I came out disagreeing with Calvin, when in fact, you do not know why, is not becoming โ for saints. If you think I am a brother, you should know not to bear false witness against your brother. And even if you think me an enemy, don't you owe me the duty of love still, the sort that does not think the worst of people? Love your enemies.

THE FEDERAL CHARACTER COMMISSION of heaven.
Extremes are bad.
Nepotism in ministry succession arrangements exists, and is wrong. O, sure, there are ministries where you may never be appointed to top leadership positions, if you're not from a particular tribe, or even from a specific family. It is an unwritten but decided rule that can not be violated. We observe these things, and they are ungodly.
But that does not mean that a saint is disqualified from leadership simply because the outgoing leader is a kin (parent, uncle, etc).
Jesus' siblings were leaders in the early church (James, Jude). It wasn't nepotistic. Also, during His public ministry, at least 4 out of Jesus' twelve apostles came from two homes โ in 2 pair of siblings (Andrew/Peter and James/John), and all 4 were family friends.
More, all His apostles seemed to have been Galileans, meaning there were no Judeans on His team, a team that will sit as judges on 12 thrones over the 12 tribes of Israel, in the Eschaton. Wouldn't it have been fairer to pick an Apostle from each tribe of Israel, or to at least try to be as representative as possible, in that apostolic-eschatological appointment?
God does not operate a democracy. He is a Mornach.
So, again, while it is despicable and vile to arrange ministry around yourself and your family, as if ministry were a family enterprise, your family members are not disqualified from ministry (leadership) simply because you've already been picked for ministry.
Therefore, each case of family member involvement and succession in Ministry must be considered in its own context and on its own merit โ discerningly. For instance, we should ask: Does the ministry operate a one-man style leadership, or an eldership where critical decisions rest on the corporate leadership, and not just on one unquestionable Hitler of a leader? These and related issues are important. So, here, extremes are unhelpful.
