SOLA GRATIA GRACE ALONE.
SOLA SCRIPTURA
SCRIPTURE ALONE.
*
SOLA FIDE
FAITH ALONE.
In 1517 these ideas burst into view when a monk named Martin Luther nailed Ninety-Five Theses to Wittenberg's church door. He challenged a system that sold forgiveness for money and laid foundations still followed by almost 40 percent of Christians. TIME later called him "the last medieval man and the first modern one," because his simple appeal to truth still guides how people meet Christ.

Death of Elie Neau, a French Huguenot. Because of persecution, he had fled to the New World.
Captured by a French corsair, he had been returned to France where efforts were made to force him to convert to Catholicism.
Having refused to give way, he was kept three years in prison, a year in the galleys, and another year in a dungeon until England obtained his release.
He had said to one captor, "Sir, do not pity me, for could you but see the secret pleasures my heart experiences, you would think me happy."

Learning to pray the Puritan way means learning to pray for holiness, not just relief.
May God teach us to search our hearts, war against sin, and desire more of Christ.

Death of Michael Faraday, a pioneering scientist in the field of electricity and a devout Christian member of the Glasite (Sandemanian) church. The Glasites were a small Christian group founded in Scotland around 1730 by John Glas. Faraday was offered a knighthood in recognition of his scientific achievements but declined it on religious grounds, believing it was contrary to Scripture to pursue worldly honors and riches.
