NYC dem primary thoughts (will expand on some of these):
-the progressive caucus is overstepping its bounds and actual support by wielding a legion of highly-motivated and educated yet downwardly-mobile transplants as a weapon against many of their “own team”
-The radicalization of downwardly mobile white collarites allows the DSA to draw an enormous portion of left-wing organizational talent to their ranks and to mobilize them incredibly well. this makes them extremely powerful at the local level.
-the DSA wing represents a huge threat to the DNC in major urban areas. the democrats depend on local urban patronage networks to win state and national elections, DSA entryists are often disconnected from these patronage networks
-more importantly: the DSA, like a virus, wishes to seize the patronage machinery of the democrats for their own purposes. they want to hijack the redistribution machine to funnel cash back to *their* people (downwardly mobile educated NGO types). this could be calamitous in patronage-contentious regions like NYC.
-the DSA is deeply cancerous to the democratic party and it’s currently metastasizing in many urban locales. the DNC does not have an answer to this.
@umichvoter The Republicans and moderates are laughing at the Democrats tonight. This slate is absolutely ridiculous. I have no idea how progressives don't see the writing on the walls with this one
BREAKING: Rep. Espaillat concedes. Mamdani-backed socialists have officially gone 3/3 and won all of their respective Democratic primaries for U.S. House in New York tonight. Their positions are some of the most extreme & far left Dems have seen:
Darializa Avila Chevalier (NY-13): Abolish prisons, abolish ICE, abolish borders, defund the police, and “all deportations are wrong”, including for violent criminals. She has called the U.S. an “effing disgrace”, and said in a prior social media post “I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me.”
Claire Valdez (NY-7): Grant citizenship and voting rights to illegal aliens, use taxpayer funds for all transgender treatments, & eliminate private health insurance.
Brad Lander (NY-10): Abolish ICE, forgive all student loans (almost $2 trillion worth), expand the Supreme Court.
Mamdani gets a clean sweep, a bad night for Hakeem Jeffries, and big questions for where the Democratic Party is heading.
@thltd_ Whenever theres IQ discourse I see the conflict between "the tests are biased" and "tests have been weighted appropriately." Where do you find information on the tests they administered to third world / non-English speakers? Ofc I dont doubt the tests are still a good gauge
@Cheryl66875634@ElectionTime_ To be fair a bunch of moderate Republicans in safe seats lost their primaries this cycle or will probably lose their primaries in 2028
