There are truly no words to express how proud I am of the way you showed up — and continue to show up — every single day. It has been the honor of a lifetime to be by your side. I love you so much. ❤️
And you did it all with such grace and class and cool that you made the hardest job in the world look like a walk in this beautiful park.
Never once did you change from that idealistic summer associate who showed up on that rainy day we first met without an umbrella. You always gave us the very best within you — and in doing so, you reminded the rest of us that we could, too.
Michelle Obama: That's where the truth of this country lies. Not in grabbing as much as we can get for ourselves or knocking folks down to prop ourselves up. But in the overwhelming goodness, the relentless striving, the quiet dignity that is inside all of us.
Michelle Obama just delivered one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard. She upheld her husband’s legacy, defended the dignity of all people, appealed to our better angels, & reminded us of the America that we could be.
What a contrast to the depravity occupying the White House.
Michelle Obama: Not once did you melt from the heat. Not once did you let it harden you… the claims that a U.S. Senator and constitutional law expert wasn't qualified for the job. The lies about your birthright, your faith, your patriotism, the outrage when you stated the biological fact that if you'd had a son that he too would be black, yet you were unflappable at every turn, always focused.
Obama: To Michelle. She did me wrong. She wouldn't let me see her speech. She knew she was going to mess me up and she did it anyway. But she's always made me better. And I could not be more grateful.
Barack and I never did anything alone. Through two national campaigns, eight years in the White House, and in all the years since, we had an incredible team backing us up and pushing us forward.
It was such a joy to be back together with so many of the alumni who’ve supported us over the years. We’ll forever be grateful for their work, and our country is better off thanks to their service. We love you. 💗
More than 40 years ago, I arrived in Chicago in search of an idea. I was a young man looking for purpose, who believed deeply in America, was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and wanted to be a part of something larger. The America I believed in was one where everyone has opportunity, everyone is seen, everyone belongs—because that was an America that had a place for me, too.
Barack: You told me all those years ago that you couldn’t promise me the world, but you could promise me an interesting life. Of course, you outdid yourself and managed to give me both.
Eight years in the crucible, and not once did you melt from the heat. Not once did you let it harden you. Instead, you used it to reveal your truest essence: your stubborn optimism and unflinching courage, your dazzling brilliance and unpretentious decency, your ferocious work ethic and absolutely unshakable moral fiber.
