Today we have some special guests - professional soccer coaches from Germany! First, our German students enjoyed learning German by playing Fußball. Kudos to my German 2 students for their analysis of Rumpelstilzchen! They identified Präteritum forms like "war(=was)," "sagte(=said)," and "hatte(=had)," marked essential vocab such as "König(=king)," joined forces to unscramble and reorder passages, and filled in the blank with conjugations like "half(=helped)." Also, they acted out their favorite part of the story, answered comprehension questions, and discussed how this Grimm version could be adapted to a film. #OEproud @WorldLanguageOE @OlatheWl  @AATGOnline

🏫 We've partnered with our sister school in Penzberg, Germany, for more than 15 years! This year’s 11 day exchange has been unforgettable! One highlight was a visit to Washington Elementary School, where Penzberg students shared what school is like in Germany and taught our students a few German words.

✈️ Penzberg students explored the Kansas City area, celebrated local traditions, and connected with their host families. We can’t wait for our students to travel to Penzberg this summer for the return experience! #OPSGrowHere

Wrapping up our 11-day @olatheschools-Penzberg exchange - what an incredible time! It was so neat: 1) for our Penzberg students to participate with us in our classes, 2) explore our community-based cultural and business hotspots, i.e. the Mahaffie Farmstead with a welcome breakfast reception hosted by Mayor John Bacon @CityofOlatheKS, and our tour at @Garmin, 3) celebrate Halloween and 6A playoff football together, 4) enjoy great, local food like @joeskc- to name a few. As host families and guests, we gained invaluable insights from one another - sharing everyday routines, cultural nuances, language differences, and unique viewpoints that foster meaningful global connections and lifelong friendships. A life-enriching experience for all. Eager for this once-in-a-lifetime learning experience in Penzberg this summer! #OEproud @OlatheWl @AATGOnline

We celebrated Haribo's 100th anniversary by making Gummibärchen and holding a blind taste test with Haribo not typically found in the US, i.e. Frösche(=frogs) and Schlümpfe(=smurfs)! Most students nailed identifying Pfirsiche(=peaches), which was the group's Favorit!

KC does have a threepeat! Congrats to Neil Patrao for scoring 1st in KS on the National German Exam, and continuing OE’s legacy for the last three years! In fact, Neil is 1 of the top 100 high school students learning German in the US! @olathewl @worldlanguageoe @olatheschools
