@womenpostingws It is funnier in Portuguese because of a word play: Solo in Portuguese means ground, but we also use the word when referring to a performance made by a single individual, like a guitar solo, or, in this case, her individual performance.

A few things learned through refactoring overlong functions.

Today I meet @hxjxsnow, a new member of @IRIF_Paris, who is doing a post-doctorate on how behaviours (aka interfaces) in Elixir would look like with set-theoretic types.
Absolutely mind-blowing we now have a PhD student and a post-doc working on types for Elixir.
Woot! Elixir v1.17 is out, bringing you the first warnings and type checking based on our on-going work to perform type inference from patterns (and soon guards). A lot more to come, hopefully: https://t.co/6Dibssxwpi
Today Elixir turns 12 years old! 🎉🥳
Let's celebrate with Elixir v1.17-rc, which includes our initial work on set-theoretic types, a brand new duration data type, and support for Erlang/OTP 27.
Want to give Elixir a gift? Give it a star on GitHub! https://t.co/sMD3d9hp22
This Friday we will celebrate 12 years of Elixir on a live stream with @jacob_luetzow! Everyone is welcome to join: https://t.co/RGuIpTDN8M
We might even be ready for Elixir v1.17 RC! 👀
Last week we had plenty of type system updates, thanks to @duboc_guillaume adding set-theoretic maps/structs.
Here is an introduction to our work: https://t.co/5GfBQD9AlT
And here is the updated Elixir v1.17 CHANGELOG with a summary of the new warnings: https://t.co/dybCS7IaSf
The attitude among programmers on algorithms and data structures is self-reinforcing.
If you don't practice this stuff, you won't easily get into teams that actually do require it. And even if you do get in without strong knowledge, the implementation of the A&DS will be delegated to more experienced devs.
So: if you want to work with big data tools/infrastructure (e.g. databases), it's good to focus on A&DS fundamentals.
On the other hand, of course there are many careers as a programmer you can successfully build without strong A&DS knowledge.
Everybody should tune in to this if you can (I will be unfortunately busy but hoping to catch up later)
