The biggest snowstorm of the year is going to slam the Sierra Nevada Thursday through Sunday, bringing snow totals of 3-9 feet above 5,000 feet.

In fact, the National Weather Service is currently forecasting 91 inches of snow to fall near Donner Summit in just 48 hours.

This will be a crippling storm for mountain communities, with very strong winds and prolonged heavy snow for multiple days, leading to impossible travel at times.

This has the potential to rival or maybe even exceed some of the biggest winter storms of last year.

California's next atmospheric river is moving in and it's getting to pack a serious punch.

Flood watches extend along over 500 miles of coastline from northern San Diego County to the North Coast.

Severe thunderstorms and isolated tornadoes will possible in the Central Valley tomorrow afternoon, including the cities of Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto.

2-5 inches of rain is expected to fall across much of NorCal, with similar amounts likely across SoCal from LA northward. Flood watches have been issued for tens of millions of people, including the Bay Area, Sacramento and Los Angeles.

The most serious risk for significant flooding will be along the Central Coast extending down to Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, where 5-9 inches of rain could fall in the hills/mountains, causing big flood issues.

Meanwhile, the Sierra Nevada snowpack will continue to steadily grow with 2-5 feet of heavy snow expected above 7,000 feet.

This multi-day storm will persist through Wednesday, bringing several rounds of moderate-heavy precipation across the state. Stay tuned.
