After nearly 13 years of planning and overcoming countless challenges, the new linear accelerator is officially active. This is a device that delivers highly targeted cancer treatment while reducing side effects and shortening treatment times. This upgrade brings significant taxpayer savings and increases safety by reducing offsite medical trips. Yesterday, @BOPDirector joined Senator @JimJustice_WV and U.S. Attorney Moore Capito @SDWVnews at #FPCAlderson for a visit of the facility and a Correctional Workers Week Memorial Service. All shared meaningful remarks honoring the purpose, professionalism, and commitment of correctional work. Every day, #correctionalworkers protect, support, and uphold the safety and stability of BOP operations, often without recognition, but never without impact.

🚨 13 federal arrests in a multi-state takedown of two major drug rings operating across Maryland & West Virginia. The Homeland Security Task Force led the charge, seizing large amounts of drugs, firearms & tens of thousands in cash. Another strong month of learning at the MSTC. In May, 284 students sharpened their skills through programs including National Case Management Coordinator, Advanced Treatment Specialist, Managing Employee & Career Development, Special Populations Coordinator, Correctional Food Prep, Case Manager Familiarization, Trust Fund, and Education & Recreation Management.

The momentum continues as we strengthen skills and support a mission ready workforce.

This May, staff from #USPAtwater joined forces with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the Department of Veterans Affairs, #FDCPhiladelphia, #FCIFairton, and #FCIBigSpring to honor three Correctional Officers who gave their lives in the line of duty at USP Alcatraz. From graveside ceremonies to National Memorial services nationwide, the BOP paused to pay tribute to Officers Royal Cline, Harold Stites, and William Miller; remembering them where they served and where they now rest.

The BOP is expanding the use of minimum‑security camps to strengthen reentry, reduce recidivism, and support safer communities. This initiative improves transitions and maximizes existing resources.

The Federal Release ID initiative keeps growing. From expanded eligibility to TSA acceptance and tripled production capacity, thousands are now leaving with the ID they need for a smoother reentry into society.

An inmate at FCC Yazoo City has pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder for the fatal assault of another inmate. Sentencing is scheduled for September 2026. The FBI investigated; Federal prosecutors in Southern District of Mississippi are handling the case as BOP continues its commitment to institutional safety.

Secure visits, stronger communities!

Recently, staff at #FCIYazooCity prevented Marijuana and other drug substances from entering during a routine visit screening. BOP recovers contraband such as drugs, weapons, phones and much more in visitations. Small choices have serious consequences. Understanding prohibited items before you visit helps keep our institutions safe. Great work, #FCIYazooCity!
