I shed tears of pain two weeks ago, the first time this year. I do not recall crying last year.

My good friend and colleague, Justice John (@legalbreed01), lost his wife, Mrs. Akudo Lovelyn John, in a very questionable circumstance.

I attended their civil wedding a year ago, precisely on Wednesday, 18th December, 2024.

Justice and I have been good friends since we met in the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus.

My friend, Justice, is seeking justice.

Below is the personal account of the tragic death as written by Justice .

THE AGONY OF LOSING MY BELOVED AND NEWLY WEDDED WIFE AT GYNESCOPE SPECIALIST HOSPITAL, LEKKI

My wife went to Gynescope Specialist Hospital, Lekki for childbirth and died from mismanaged Primary Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH). The same hospital where she registered and had her antenatal care without any underlying illness.

In her third trimester, during one of the antenatal visits, the Consultant and attending doctor, Dr. Joseph Aliyu Yahaya, disclosed the considerable size of the baby. We raised concerns regarding safe delivery options and the possibility of an elective Cesarean Section (CS) owing to the fetal size. The Consultant dismissed CS and insisted on SVD.

On Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, my wife went into labour. The Consultant performed episiotomy on my her, and our baby was delivered weighing 4.2KG. Immediately after delivery, the consultant left the labour ward and my wife’s episiorrhaphy was done by his subordinate.

My wife complained of a dripping sensation inside her body. After observation, the Consultant noted that the vulva was unusually swollen and the sutures were too tight. The Consultant re-sutured her. After this second procedure, my wife looked lifeless, pale, and unconscious for hours, while the bleeding continued unabated.

The Consultant confirmed she was bleeding internally yet took no active steps in referring or seeking specialist help outside the primary facility. There was a clear 15-hour window between the delivery of our baby and my wife’s eventual passing. Blood transfusion was done without first identifying and repairing the source of bleeding.

At about 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, 4th December 2025, my wife complained of discomfort and began convulsing. It is important to note that at this critical moment, no medical personnel were in sight. Minutes after I screamed for help, doctors and nurses arrived from the ground floor. There was notably no oxygen in the ward where my wife was admitted. At this time, I requested for a transfer of my wife to another facility, but the Consultant said no facility would accept her without a pulse. Minutes later, the Consultant then agreed for her to be moved.

MY OBSERVATIONS DURING THE EVACUATION OF MY WIFE

Firstly, the Hospital brought a stretcher without side guards or straps to evacuate my wife. While moving her, she fell off the stretcher onto the hard floor of the tiled walkway on the 3rd floor. (I have challenged the Hospital to release the undoctored CCTV footage of the 3rd floor showing when my wife was being stretched out in the early hours of Thursday, 4th December 2025). I rushed to help lift her back up. The staff seemed confused about whether to use the stairs or elevator, thereby wasting valuable time during such an emergency.

Secondly, upon reaching the ground floor, I expected the ambulance to be positioned at the entrance of the hospital door, ready to receive her. Sadly, the ambulance was stationed about 80 metres away, still covered in a tarpaulin showing no readiness. Only then was the cover removed. When I asked the driver to open the ambulance, I heard the most shocking thing - the keys were with Human Resources (HR) Manager. It took considerable time to retrieve the keys. When the driver finally opened the bus, he stated he needed to connect the battery. Throughout this chaos, my wife lay in the open on a stretcher, unattended and without oxygen.

What I witnessed during my trip to Nigeria was heartbreaking.

I met a woman who witnessed all five of her children murdered in front of her.

Another woman lost her husband and two daughters and had her unborn child killed.

We did have positive conversations with the Nigerian government, and I believe we are close to a a strategic security framework to address both the ISIS and Boko Haram threat in the Northeast, as well as the genocide against Christians by the radical Fulani Muslims in the Middle Belt.

The report that I will present @POTUS with outlines paths to work with the Nigerian government to end the slaughter of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

To the Nigerian Senate,

Regarding the ambassadorial nomination of Californian Reno Omokri: I’ve seen this man up close. He is a danger to your country.

Reno did not attend his own father’s funeral.
He abandoned his autistic son in California.
He has been publicly accused of covering for his brother who raped a 15-year-old girl in church.
He was accused of sexual harassment by Sen. Natasha Akpoti at a State House event.
He called Tinubu a drug baron, then called him Christlike the moment the cheque cleared.
He screamed “Christian genocide” under Buhari, then called it a hoax under Tinubu.
He lies calm, cool, and constantly. Pathological.

This is no diplomat.

This is an effeminate, preening peacock who plucks his eyebrows and prances like a pixie in selfies for cheap social media clicks.

This is a shape-shifting mercenary who sells his tongue to the highest bidder and his soul to the nearest camera.

When a foreign government or lobby offers Reno more money tomorrow than Abuja does today, he will flip and sell out Nigeria the same way he sold out his father, his son, his wife, his political allies, his faith, and every principle he ever pretended to have.

Do not let this man carry your flag.
He will embarrass you on the world stage within six months.

As an American who has made Nigeria my second home (and who has probably spent more time in Nigeria in the past decade than Omokri), I can tell you the most damming international stereotype of Nigeria is the slick scammer. The very nomination of Omokri for this important post plays fully into that stereotype and de-markets the nation in a very corrosive way.

Deny the nomination. Your fatherland deserves better than a paid liar who wouldn’t even bury his own father.

A Pain One Carries Silently

This afternoon, as I travelled from Abuja to Lagos, a group of young Nigerians approached me at the airport and said: “We have not heard or read anything from you today or yesterday, despite all the heartbreaking news dominating our front pages—from the appointment of some of the least qualified individuals as ambassadors, to our institutions being ridiculed, the First Lady hosting extravagant dinners for Senators while children are being abducted, and the countless killings across the country.”

I looked at them and understood their frustration. My response came from the depth of my heart:

My dear younger brothers and sisters, there is a pain one carries silently when watching a nation you love bleed daily. There is a pain that words cannot fully describe—when you see the suffering of ordinary Nigerians and compare it to the reckless insensitivity displayed by those entrusted with leadership. It is the kind of pain that makes you remember the humiliating remark from the American president who referred to Nigeria as a “now disgraced country.”

Today, when you look around, you begin to understand why the world speaks of us that way. Yes, some of the names being paraded to represent us as ambassadors globally are shocking. But with a leadership that has allowed mediocrity, corruption, and impunity to rise to the top, who else did you expect them to choose?

When our people are being killed, our leaders are busy hosting dinners.
When children are being snatched from their schools, the political class is celebrating and dancing.
When families cannot afford their next meal, those in power are welcoming defectors and exchanging gifts as though Nigeria is not burning.

This is not governance.
This is not leadership.
And this is certainly not the Nigeria we deserve.

We cannot continue normalising this level of moral decay and national indifference. A nation rises when its leaders feel the pain of its citizens—not when they insulate themselves from it. A nation progresses when compassion, competence, and accountability guide public office, not when frivolity becomes the order of the day.

But I want you, the young people, to know this: do not lose hope. Do not become numb. Do not let this darkness demoralise your hearts. The New Nigeria we dream of—a just, secure, productive, and respected nation—is still possible. But it will not happen by accident. It will happen because people like you refuse to accept failure as our destiny.

We will continue to speak and insist that Nigeria can and must be better.

"I am accusing a section of Northern Islamic clerics of “poisoning the minds of our youth with vituperative, inciting and dangerously divisive sermons” that have turned pulpits into platforms for open warfare against Christians".

"Nobody has the key to Jannatul Firdausi except Allah,” Sheriff thundered. “Yet any Tom, Dick and Harry with myopic knowledge of Islam wakes up, grabs a microphone and starts calling our Christian brothers ‘Arna’, ‘Kafurai’, ‘infidels destined for hell’. This is not Islam. This is madness.

"An idle mind is the devil’s workshop,” he wrote.

Why did America put us on that list?

Because some of our preachers behave like they are above the law.

Let them Try that kind of sermon in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, even Cameroon – you will be arrested and executed the same day.

On this note I am issuing a direct challenge to President Bola Tinubu: order the National Assembly, all 19 Northern governors and 774 local government chairmen to enact iron-clad laws that criminalise:

– Street begging by children (Almajiri)

– Hate speech disguised as religious preaching

“Do this sincerely,” Sheriff warned, “and America will see we are serious. Fail, and we invite the same digital war machinery that turned Afghanistan and Iraq into graveyards.”

If we implement these measures, Nigeria will return to the peace we enjoyed in the early 1970s to 90s when Muslims and Christians drank from the same cup, married each other’s sisters and buried each other’s dead.”
