https://t.co/fto3bfF5da was going to come here to do replies this evening and then got hit with a flare up and slept most of the evening instead so maybe tomorrow
He knows if he tries to claim that he didn't mean for this to happen between them, he won't be believed. And maybe it would be unfair to expect otherwise.
It still doesn't make it any more tolerable to have Alex look at him like that though.
"You sure about that? Doesn't —
His jaw tightens, shoulders squaring as he finally turns a little more toward Cole, though his eyes stay cool, distant. Just done.
“Works well enough.” He replies calmly. Flat. Controlled.
“At least it’s quiet.” His gaze flicks to the mug, then back up, unimpressed. (+)
he bites his tongue for once, halting the instinctive reaction to being told to find the positive in being alive. instead just giving a soft snort and shake of his head.
"right, cute horses. and what makes you think i can't surprise you? you don't know everything."
"you'..." she vocalizes the sound, still not looking up to meet his eyes, before shrugging.
"you're alive, i suppose? you have a cute horse, maybe? i'm sure there are a bunch of reasons. not that you would surprise me anyway."
the corner of his mouth curls upwards just for a moment, not taking his eyes off her even if she won't meet his gaze.
"find me a good reason to be a bundle of positivity and maybe i'll surprise you. or maybe not."
"more like you can't be a bundle of positivity in general, right? i don't think i've ever seen you be a bundle of positivity, cole."
looking down, suddenly not quite as confident about staring at him or even meeting his gaze.
His expression sours further for only a moment before being replaced with an amused smirk.
"How's the avoidance tactics working out for you?" Raising brows over the rim of his mug as he takes a drink.
He pauses just long enough at the door to glance back, expression flat, unreadable.
“Morning.” He says, toneless, like it costs him nothing. Or like it means nothing.
Alex isn’t taking the bait.
"we can't all be a bundle of positivity this early, new york."
⠀ leaning against the counter across from her, reaching to grab an apple from the fruit bowl as he gave a shrug.
"don't you look like a ray of sunshine in the morning?"
she is sitting at the counter, eyebrow raised as she looks over at him through the rim of her cup.
Alex might find it better to ignore him but there's some days where Cole can't help himself from biting.
"Not even a good morning?" Is it still morning, on second thoughts?
He rushed downstairs after him, his eyes catching Cole for a brief moment as he rolled them before focusing back on heading outside.
ㅤIt was best to avoid him.
