The edge fades from his voice slightly. Even if he's not entirely convinced that Alex's answer is completely genuine, he doesn't seem like he's about to start something over it either.
"Yeah, it's new. I guess maybe she didn't want to say anything." A shoulder lifts โ
Alexโs jaw tightens almost immediately. He hadnโt planned on explaining himself, especially not like this.
โDating...?โ He repeats, flat, testing the word like it doesnโt quite sit right.
He looks at Dylan then, eyes cool and assessing. (+)
โ He knows that it might seem .. surprising to other people, him and Kiley, but it felt right. And as far as he had been aware, he didn't think he was stepping on anyone's toes.
He doesn't expect the edge to Alex's tone, and it almost catches him off guard for a second.
"I think it's normally called dating." He can't stop the slightly defensive note that comes into his own voice, although he tries to make it sound casual. โ
He hadnโt meant to reply at all, but it was about Kiley, his best friend.
โSo what is it between you two?โ
Alex asked, curiosity edged with something tighter and sharper, unable to wrap his head around why sheโd gotten involved with Dylan at all, especially when things (+)
@ofaffabre well, he is becoming something of an expert on refilling chilli flake containers so he can't blame her for wanting him to show up.
"good, then you can't try to use those arguments to put me off." he looks pleased with himself, if only for making her smile at him. โ
@ofaffabre โ and honestly? even if she was right, he's not so sure he'd care right now.
"well, i don't know about that with our current track record but thanks anyway."
@ofaffabre then all he's hearing is that he's special and that can't be a bad thing either. unless she's about to tell him he can't show up at her workplaces.
"i'm flattered that you're worried about my social standing but i think it'll be okay." he jokes with a slight laugh, โ
@ofaffabre โ her until he got her attention.
"right, noted. i'll avoid making you jump when you've got that in your hand then, otherwise i might be out of play for the season. i think you'd do serious damage."
@ofaffabre it's a small town and she works at two of the most popular places. unless she thinks half the town is stalking her?
"i wouldn't say that, i might take it personally if i can't at least get your full attention." his tone is joking but it's true that he would keep bothering โ
@ofaffabre not his fault it's easy to find her when she's at work โ and not his fault she's always reading the rest of the time!
"shame, i was hoping to graciously tell someone off one day. what're you reading anyway? and do you only read books big enough to double as a weapon?"
@ofaffabre well, the book isn't going to go anywhere, right? he's only stopping her temporarily.
"i wouldn't tell them to piss off." a slight pause. "well โ maybe depending on who it was, anyway."
@ofaffabre her sarcasm only makes his smile widen further, a slight laugh sounding.
"i'm not out here kicking people out of their seats. i'd be .. gracious."
she's absolutely right about him, of course, but why would he admit that out loud?
