An excellent point by @brithume -- The reason this CR is even perceived as necessary is because the Senate, led by Senator Schumer refused to pass even a single appropriates bill sent to them by the House this entire year.

So Senate Democrats worked throughout the year to plant the seeds for a "crisis" so that at the 11th hour they could pressure the Republican House to pass a Christmas Tree CR to avoid one.

So glad @realDonaldTrump torpedoed the 1,500 page monstrosity.
