C graduated with a 4.82 CGPA, finished as the best graduating student, and had a publication. Yet, she received six consecutive rejections.
Meanwhile, her friends with lower CGPAs were securing fully funded offers. She could not understand what was going wrong.

When she joined our mentorship community, the blind spot became clear: her applications focused entirely on praising her First Class degree, but failed to clearly articulate her background, her research alignment, and the core motivation behind her chosen program.

A strong CGPA strengthens your profile, but it does not guarantee admission. Review panels look beyond grades; they want clarity of purpose, research fit, and narrative depth. An applicant with a lower CGPA who clearly frames their trajectory will consistently outperform a high-GPA applicant with a generic story.

A guy called me recently, but I didn’t know when he called,

I opened my button phone to see 2 missed calls from the same unsaved number

So I called back, and the guy picked, and introduced himself has someone who has been following what I do online for sometimes now

He said he called because he had a motion graphics gig that he wants to refer me for

I told him that I just started learning motion graphics, he insisted that it doesn’t matter, that he knows I can get it done, that atleast this will be an opportunity to practice

I was just smiling on the call, and I insisted that I couldn’t do anything yet, that I recently just started learning

So he asked if I could refer someone else, and I did just that, I referred him to a friend who’s very good at it

It was then that it dawned on me that I just lost an opportunity that I had no business loosing

You see, 2023 was the first time I attempted learning motion design, because I genuinely enjoyed watching motion videos and I still do

I got a smartphone motion design course for 30k in December 2023, and it looked like I was serious with it, I watched a lot of videos, and even started practicing a bit, until January 2024

I lost track, for really genuine reasons (work and school)

In July 2024, I spent more than half a million to get a new Laptop with crazy specs, just so I could learn motion design during my 1yr break in 2025

Oh well, I got a 150k solid motion design course last year (2025), and I still haven’t gone past Week1 in the training, and again, I have really genuine reasons why I fell short again

If I had invested time in consistently learning and practicing motion design since that 2023, by now, I would’ve become a pro, especially with my solid background in graphic design…

And yeah, this will an opportunity for me, which I would’ve been able to easily maximize

The reason why a lot of young persons are where they are financially, currently, isn’t really an absence of opportunities, it’s just that you’re not equipped with the right skill and mindset to RECOGNIZE the opportunities, and MAXIMIZE the opportunities

It has never really been a problem of “absence of opportunities” for many young persons, but instead “unequipped youngies”

Hopefully this speaks to a young person,
You’re in charge of your life, Take Charge!
And yeah, it starts from your daily decisions

The fact about Good grades and Solid Networks

Let's break down both options:

1. Finishing with the best grade shows proven academic excellence. It means that you’ve demonstrated the ability to learn complex material, execute under pressure, and deliver not just consistently but exceptionally. A good grade signals that a student has a solid intellectual power in the field as a result of years of discipline and discipline is key to achieving many things.

2. Finishing with a solid network means that you've built relationships. You know people across departments, faculties and all. You have an alumni who can refer you, mentors who can guide you, and peers who will rise with you. Solid networks open doors that would otherwise remain closed. They fast-track introductions, provide insider information, and create opportunities that never others never get to see.

Good grades and networking are usually pit against each other, but the truth is that; there are not mutually exclusive.
