@willtube4food@blu3id@CompareSoftware @NHSX @Microsoft@opalframework@NHSHackDay We've been making multiple Covid releases per week to our infection management software at the Royal Free.
We're looking at packaging it up as a standalone covid focussed piece without their bespoke customisations.
Will be fully open source and have some advantages over trees
@drcjar@NHSHackDay@goatchurch In practice I think we've, very rarely closed community PRs unmerged, but as with any OS project, if you're planning on doing significant coding, best to discuss first on issue tracker/mailing list before firing a 3K line diff in a PR and demanding it be immediately merged !
Anyone currently managing data capture for Covid19 for clinical care or research with ad hoc spreadsheets should definitely get in touch - usable clinical software to manage patients with infection is something we can help with
5. @dr_michaelmarks@gpollara@thatdavidmiller
open source nhs clinical infection software is potentially much more widely valuable in covid19 research, I know @The_MRC@wellcometrust funding++, I know too much being done clinically adhoc using spreadsheets
@drcjar@NHSHackDay@goatchurch We make every effort to accept contributions
(modulo standard code review and clinical usability reviews with our users that would happen as standard)
Nobody need be hobbled by galacial megacorp development lead times!
We can have clinical record systems deployed to the public cloud (DH/NHSX recommend, we've practical experience of having done it)
We can iterate such systems at pace (Likely 4 Covid releases this week alone)
6. @dr_michaelmarks@gpollara@thatdavidmiller
opportunity cost to not capturing whats going on in a structured way is big. of course hard to design / decide right data fields etc to capture prospectively but at least @ohcuk at Royal Free not hobbled by glacial megacorp dev
Excitingly, we've made the shortlist for tomorrow's UK Open Source awards https://t.co/y6bpKRWM0f - which seems to have a heavy health focus this year!
It’s not a proper @NHSHackDay until you’ve overheard “But I think the problem with the NHS is….” at least a few times :D #nhshd
If you like starting conversations with this sentence, or even other similar sentences come join the conversation at @ukhealthcamp :) #ukhc18

Off to Newcastle! Talking to the NHS about open sourcing their software and the need for open standards.
If you have good examples of NHS services which have been coded in the open - please share them with me 😀
Hooray for @pdftables made by our friends @sensiblecodeio !
It just saved us loads of time by turning other people's PDFs into a thing we can immediately work with.
Systematically providing our NHS staff with IT systems which are not fit for purpose is like systematically buying our surgeons rusty scalpels.
Reckless.
This stuff is not easy, but it's not impossible either. https://t.co/1yIu6tGScg
P.S. while we're glad that Windows support enables those of you trying to explore Opal on your work PC to do so, we'd still recommend deploying to a more Open Source operating system wherever possible. https://t.co/QGdya0tvn0
Thanks to the hard work of @lolamby and the support of @NHSDigital our upcoming 0.10.0 release will also run on Windows as well as on unix platforms!
