I wouldn’t be surprised if Ukraine ends up forcing Russia to the negotiating table while on the brink of liberating Crimea.
And when that happens, watch the narrative suddenly change. The same people demanding concessions from Kyiv today will claim Ukraine is “holding up peace” by refusing to stop before securing its position.
Mark my words: if Crimea genuinely comes under threat, the pressure for a ceasefire won’t be about peace. It’ll be about preventing a Russian defeat.
37 years ago today, the Chinese government brutally crushed peaceful protesters in and around Tiananmen Square who were demanding an end to corruption, freedom of speech, and democratic reform. The massacre revealed a truth the world should never forget: the Chinese Communist Party will do whatever it takes to preserve its grip on power. If it did not value the lives of its own citizens, why would it value the lives of others?
If the separatists believe so strongly that Canada is a failed country why are they so adamant about keeping dual citizenship with Canada?
Just rip off the bandaid if you’re so confident.
"I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity." - General Dwight D. Eisenhower
"I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine." - General William Tecumseh Sherman
@The_Davos_Man The only Burma vet I ever met never saw a single (live) Japanese soldier. He was in combat but the jungle obscured everything as they fought through ambushes. Might be difficult to adapt to TV, but done well could nearly be horror genre.
Francis Fukuyama on the U.S. as a declining power:
American decline is a direct product of Trump's rise since 2016.
It is as if Trump had decided to do everything in his power to weaken the United States vis-à-vis China.
He has polarized an already polarized country, cut funding for basic scientific research, and attacked American universities which are the best in the world.
He and his colleagues have openly stated that their domestic opponents — the Democrats — are a far greater threat to the future of the United States than either China or Russia.
There is agreement among America's friends and rivals that the United States has become something of a rogue state that is contributing to global instability and disorder — as well as something of a laughingstock.
It's a critique of every US Administration going back to 1993.
Richard Nixon is the only President who actually understood the importance of Ukraine. See his 1994 letter to President Clinton.
