Congratulations to two of Horizon High School’s finest from the Class of 2026 as they take the next step in their academic and athletic journeys! ✨
Help us celebrate:
🔹 Marcus Ojeda who is headed to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to study Kinesiology and play baseball on the fall.
🔹 Ricardo Martinez is headed to the University of the Southwest this fall to study Criminology and play baseball.
Horizon High is incredibly proud of the hard work, late nights, and dedication these two have put in to reach this moment. The future is bright! 👏🦂⚾️

Horizon loses heartbreaker 5-4 to Lubbock Cooper in 5A baseball playoffs and is eliminated. Joaquin Ojeda with a 2 out 2 RBI single in Bottom 7 to make it 5-4, but LCP closes it out to win. Great effort by the Scorpions played tough vs the Pirates
Fernando Mendoza was a 2 star coming out of high school.
He had to beg his way into college football.
He won the national championship.
He won the Heisman trophy.
He is the first pick in the NFL draft.
The coaches that knew him the best growing up were probably telling college coaches he was special but the college coaches were reliant on the rankings to formulate their opinions.
Makeup, work ethic, toughness, maturity and aptitude are monumentally more important than showcase skills.
Special players have special traits from a young age that don't show up in player rankings.
Players
If you're genuinely outworking the competition and sacrificing like a maniac.
Believe in yourself and be relentless like Fernando Mendoza.
