In 2007, Daily Sun reported that Anambra State Governor Peter Obi had blocked pension payments to former governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju, who had left office in 2003 with more than ₦1 billion in unpaid pensions.

Unnamed sources told the newspaper that Mbadinuju had left behind 16 months of unpaid pensions and once described protesting pensioners as “dead woods.”

Obi reportedly said he found it difficult to approve Mbadinuju’s pension while the state was still struggling to clear the backlog of unpaid pensions he had inherited.

Daily Sun reported, “Obi said that he could not approve Mbadinuju's pension in good conscience as ₦1.7 billion duly paid to the state by the Federal Government was missing and was still being investigated.”

The governor’s spokesperson, Valentine Obienyem, did not confirm the report. However, when asked for his thoughts, he said, “It will become a good lesson to those that govern states that sooner or later, our actions and omissions will haunt us.”

Of these three Nigerian politicians, only one ticks off on all critical leadership variables required to turn Nigeria around and transform it from the present doldrum to a totally united, secure, stable and progressive country.

That leader is not Bola Tinubu,
That leader is not Atiku Abubakar,
That leader is Peter Gregory Obi.

As Nigeria decides, let us set aside traditional emotionalisms driven by transactions, bigotry, ethnicity, tribalism and religion and vote for the leadership we desperately need; a leadership that will make a difference for all Nigerians.

There may be no second chance if we miss this opportunity.
Vote wisely!

THE SILENT PAIN OF FAMILIES LIVING WITH IMPRISONMENT AND SEPARATION

This morning, Nnabuikem woke up deeply emotional after dreaming that his father was taking him to school. What many children experience as an ordinary part of family life has become something my son can only experience in his dreams.

These are the silent, often overlooked emotional struggles endured by the families of prisoners and detainees. Imprisonment does not affect only the person behind bars; its consequences reach into the homes, childhoods and emotional lives of those who love them.

Children may not fully understand the political or legal circumstances surrounding their father's or mother's imprisonment, but they understand their absence. They feel the birthdays missed, the memories never made and the precious years of childhood slipping away without their presence.

Those who have never experienced imprisonment or watched a loved one endure prolonged detention may struggle to comprehend this pain. For spouses, it is the emotional burden of holding a family together while managing their own grief and uncertainty. For children, it is the longing for a parent whose love they know but whose physical presence they are denied.

The grief experienced by families who have lost loved ones to death is another profound human experience deserving its own conversation - which I have also encountered and still dealing with.

Nnabuikem's dream this morning is another reminder that behind prison walls are families enduring their own form of confinement, carrying emotional wounds that no court sentence adequately captures.

We must never become so consumed by the politics of imprisonment that we forget the humanity of those suffering its consequences, especially innocent children whose childhoods cannot be put on hold until justice is served.

This is why I continue to advocate for prisoners, their families and those subjected to unlawful detention.

I invite our well meaning Biafrans to follow "The Journey of a Wawa Barracks Survivor" accounts, support my Prison Freedom Campaign, and join the Bring Nnamdi Kanu Home Campaign.
These initiatives seek to amplify the voices of those affected by imprisonment, raise awareness of detention-related injustices and mobilise peaceful action for justice, dignity and due process.

🚨BREAKING: The Islamic regime has confirmed the death-sentence of 18 year old Melika Azizi was carried earlier today.

Melika was arrested in January 2026 during nation-wide protests and charged with "moharebeh" (waging war against god for allegedly burning Islamic regime symbols. In court, Melika told the judge: "You let so many young people bleed. How can I remain silent? I don't care just kill me."

She was a brave young lady!

I have consistently argued that reforms should be evaluated according to their consequences for the people, particularly the poorest and most vulnerable. Measures that demand substantial sacrifices from citizens must deliver benefits that are visible, measurable, and broadly shared—not misrepresented reports and official celebrations.
The World Bank’s assessment should compel this government to review ita reform and focus attention on the welfare of Nigerians and not indulge in unfounded self-congratulation. The true test is whether Nigerians are eating better, living better, and escaping poverty. The definitive measure of economic success is not the apparent stability of the economy on paper, but the quality of people’s lives.
Nigeria deserves an economy that serves its citizens, not one that continually sacrifices citizens’ wellbeing for ‘macroeconomic stability’, an economy that ends mass poverty, reduces inequality, and creates enough jobs for our youths.

A New and Productive Nigeria is POssible. Nigeria will be OK. -PO
