What the Artemis II astronauts did over the last 10 days was a testament to their bravery. And the fact that they traveled farther from Earth than anyone ever has, re-entered our atmosphere at more than 24,000 mph, and splashed down safely was a testament to human ingenuity. Thanks to everyone at @NASA for making this mission possible, and for taking us along for the ride.
This afternoon, I toured the Raila Odinga International Stadium - Talanta site to assess construction progress. The Stadium is at 88 percent complete with the main structural works completed and current efforts are focused on final works to make the stadium fully operational and compliant with international standards and in readiness for AFCON 2027.
While the Kenya Defence Forces are overseeing construction of the stadium, complementary infrastructure in transport, energy, ICT, and water is progressing through a coordinated, whole-of-government approach.
Brigadier Titus Sokobe, Chief of Infrastructure at the Defence Headquarters, accompanied me for the stadium inspection, alongside Architect Major Victor King’e and other senior KDF officers.
AU Commission Chairperson Welcomes the US - Iran Ceasefire Agreement and Urges Sustained Dialogue for Lasting Peace.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, welcomes the announcement by the Prime Minister of Pakistan of an immediate ceasefire between the Islamic Republic of Iran, the United States of America, and their respective allies, describing it as “a significant step that reflects commendable leadership and a shared commitment to de-escalation.”
The AUC Chairperson noted that the development aligns with the African Union Commission’s consistent calls for restraint and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
He commended the constructive roles played by key mediators, including the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Türkiye, and the Arab Republic of Egypt, whose diplomatic efforts helped secure this outcome.
Highlighting the broader impact of the conflict, H.E. Youssouf stressed that “the repercussions have been felt globally, including across Africa, where disruptions to fuel supplies have driven inflation and increased the cost of basic commodities.”
He added that “this ceasefire presents a critical opportunity to ease the suffering of populations affected both directly and indirectly,” underscoring that “sustained dialogue and inclusive diplomacy will be essential to consolidating these gains.”
The AUC Chairperson @ymahmoudali expresses his full support for the Islamabad Talks and urges all parties to maintain momentum toward a durable and comprehensive peace, reaffirming that diplomacy and dialogue, in line with the Charter of the United Nations, remain the only viable path to resolving international crises.
