Oh dudeeee no way!

So me and @theannalux our trip in December last year was:

🇨🇳 Fly into Beijing (we came from Japan)

Stayed in Aman Summer Palace was a cool experience (now ex Aman)

Then after 2 days flew to Chengdu, stayed there a week, very fun city, we also went to see the pandas, and try the best hotpot in the world

Then high speed train to Chongqing, quite a tourist place but cool for a few days, then high speed train back to Chengdu

Then we flew to Shanghai and an AI company guy there kindly drove us too Hangzhou to check the AI companies there, we visited Alibaba AI very interesting

If you wanna see more tourist/nature stuff Guilin is cool (big mountains)

One thing to know is Google Maps is all wrong in China, because they use some GPS encryption for military reasons, so use Amap! And install Alipay, connect your payment card, via Alipay you can use lots of apps like Didi (Uber of China), many of these apps inside Alipay won't work for foreigners outside of it (or not easy)

Also internet can be challenging, I got an eSIM from Airalo for Asia and it worked to go outside the firewall

Also if you go with family maybe helps to find some local fixer or agent, nobody speaks English (but ppl helpful), so sometimes you can have a difficult situation if you have no Chinese speaker with you. Normally I'd not book tourist tours to for ex Chinese Wall but in China I would because it means you get essentially a local fixer/translator

Food can be difficult too but if you get a good hotel you can just eat Western food there. A good China-only hotel is called Niccolo Hotels, very luxurious, clean and actually great prices too

I'm so tired.

This was my second time applying for a Visa to attend a conference in the EU (this time @MicroConf)

Refused again.

Here are a couple things I submitted during the application process:

- a signed letter of introduction from myself
- an invitation letter from MicroConf
- an invitation letter from the organizer
- payment proof of my ticket ($1K +)
- copies of my previous visas (I was in the Schengen area last year!)
- copies of my health insurance
- a to-and-fro flight reservation doc
- a hotel reservation doc
- 100+ pages of personal bank statements in the last quarter (from 4 banks!)
- business bank statements from two banks
- @Stripe transaction history
- letters of incorporation
- letters from the IRS
- tax payment and extension documentation
- a signed letter from my ex-cofounder @helloitsolly

All in all I burned ~$600 on the entire application, including flights to and from the embassy and accommodation.

Just to attend a startup conference in another country 🫠

Not sure what else I could have done ha!

Sucks more because I would have preferred to spend the 100+ hours lost on this improving @FerndeskHQ.

Traveling as a Nigerian is just genuinely exhausting...

I cancelled and then vibecoded 100% of my SaaS subscriptions

I only pay for domains, server hosting and storage and AI APIs

So the irony of being replaced myself after I replaced everything I pay for is not lost on me

I am happy I invested most of the money I made in the last 10+ years though so I have no worries financially

But obviously preferrably I keep make more money with my projects but for that we will have to adapt or make entirely new type of projects

Times of change are fun for me though, if there's no challenges life gets boring fast!

I think I have shared about this one time but let me share once again.

Free tool marketing is dangerous for SEO.

I have tried it and lived the consequences. So, speaking from experience.

I think free tools works when you have hundreds of thousands of clicks per year for your main keywords and brand terms but if your site is small, you might be diluting your position for your primary keyword by shipping free tools.

Always be cautious when shipping new free tools.

In the past couple of months, I have reduced the amount of ads on Real Work From Anywhere so much.

But I am not seeing any meaningful change in visit duration, or views per visit, or job application conversions.

The only thing that changed is I am making way less money now.

What should I do here? I am honestly lost. 😬
