Dear International Students from Nigeria 🇳🇬, welcome to the UK 🇬🇧. Some of you will meet new folks who will become lifelong friends. Others will meet life partners here. Follow laid down rules. Don’t engage in fraud. Don’t trust anyone with bank/personal details.
Dave is Dave and Laura is Laura. Most people are okay being called their first name 😊
Apply for your NI and a provisional drivers licence ASAP. Join societies, attend Nigerian-related networking events, join non-Nigerian groups, volunteer in your community and integrate into the society as much as possible.
Get a part time job if you have the time and need money. Speak clearly. You don't need to fake an accent. Listen attentively too.
PS: If you need money apply for Christmas Temp jobs via Indeed, Total Jobs and other platforms. They offer up to £20 per hour. You can earn up to £2000 before the end of the year and pay some bills.
PSS: Work on Open Days. You will get paid by your Uni. Go to your Students Union to find out how and let them know you are available to work.
PSSS: Engagement matters. Attend all your sessions. Don’t stab classes. Pound to Naira is £1 to N1000 or so. Be useful to yourself. Pity your parents if they sponsored you here. Don’t go back home without a degree. FOCUS. You are not here on holiday! Good luck 😉 ✌🏽
