These boys feel connected to home. Saka visits Nigeria every year, many of them do even if they represent other countries.

Their parents instil that Nigerian culture in them. The food, the music, everything.

…but wait, how do we integrate them? What set ups do we have? Where do we go from here?

Do we have a camp for u18s or u20s, where we invite players like that during international breaks or is it only when there are tournaments?

I believe Nigeria should seriously consider restoring fuel subsidy in a way that brings petrol back to around ₦100 per litre or as close as fiscally possible.

If a policy leaves millions of families unable to afford food, transport, healthcare, or keep their businesses alive, then it’s time to re-examine it.

Economic models mean little to a parent who can’t feed their children or a business owner shutting down because operating costs have become unbearable.

Policies should be judged not only by theory, but by how people actually live.

Leadership must be courageous enough to admit when a policy is causing widespread suffering and be willing to change course.

I'm going to 44, when I travel to see my mum, she still gives me instruction (more of advice though) that I shouldn't stay out too long (she gets worried when I'm not home by 8pm).

When I go to play football and get injured, she asks me to bring my legs and helps massage with aboniki and other balms.

When I'm going to Lagos, she puts aboniki, ori etc in my bag to use for my football injuries.

I don't normally eat 3 times a day, but when I'm at home with her, she won't allow me to skip lunch.

This thing you said here happened yesterday. I had a dental implant surgery at UCH Ìbàdàn. While the surgery was going on, Prof. Olusanya was telling Prof. Ajayi (they were both performing the surgery) about how impressed she was about my healing. Three months ago, Prof. Olusanya led my ridge augmentation surgery. Seeing the bones she harvested from my hip into my jaw well formed and healed. She couldn't hide her excitement.

Prof. Olusanya: Wow! You heal so fast and so well. You must have been eating well.

Prof. Ajayi: I can see how good the bones look.

Dr. Okeme: Once you have money, all these things are easy.

Prof. Ajayi: It's not about having money. Some people have money but they don't know how to eat good nutritious food.

Of course, I couldn't contribute to the discussion as they were drilling holes into my jaw bones. One thing I have done since I started all these surgery journey is eat well. I eat a lot of eggs, veggies and fruits...chicken and protein supplements too. These are the food that repair, rejuvenate and heal wounds in the body. Proteins also fill you faster and prevent you from packing too much carbs and sugar.

Even when I'm finally done with my remaining surgeries, I intend to continue this lifestyle. One can have multiple houses, clothes or cars but they can't have more than one body. It's also the body that does the work. So, as much as you can, feed your body good food.

The Nigerian women and men 4x100m relay advances to the final

The team of Oluebube Ezechukwu, Obi Jennifer Chukwuka, Olajide Olayinka and Prestina Ochonogor ran 43.93 seconds for 2nd place in their heat.

The quartet of Chidera Ezeakor, Kanyinsola Ajayi, Adekalu Fakorede and Favour Ashe won theirs in 38.48 seconds.

When I was in Lagos barely eating, my greatest fear was falling sick.

Then one day it happened.

I called my mom, but we both knew the truth: there was no money. I flashed a few friends I wasn’t owing. Nothing.

So I told my neighbor Raymond I wasn’t feeling good. He took me to the pharmacy. Malaria and typhoid. The bill was ₦4,000 something.

I told them I’d do a transfer, knowing my account was empty. I tried it, watched it fail, and said “network is bad.”

Raymond quietly paid. Said I could pay him back when the network got better.

The next day my mom sent ₦2,500. I bought a jumbo bread for ₦800 and budgeted ₦500 for a plate of beans each day.

I planned the money carefully so I could eat at least once a day for the three days I needed to take my malaria medication.

After those three days, everything went back to normal.

A week later, my mom sent me ₦5,000 and I was finally able to pay Raymond back.

I think about that a lot. The medication needed food to work, and food was the thing I didn’t have. In this country, hunger and sickness hold hands.
