rick distracting himself with mundane/retired man tasks like gardening or distillation not bc he's actually getting tired of his adventurous life but bc he feels nobody needs him anymore so he doesn't go all the way to impress them at this point and it's uh. really sad
And now he's watching Morty hold his own. Summer, sure, she was always capable. But Morty? Man, Morty... doesn't really need him anymore.
Everyone wants grandpas help but nobody wants grandpa.
Even when he pushes Morty away who actually wants him.
I do think they're potentially building up to a scenario where Morty has to Make A Choice. This season has done an excellent job of making Morty seem more than capable on his own without Rick. But I also think it's a little deeper than that.
Morty suffers greatly when he makes choices that Rick would make. The most recent episode has him miserable. But, a few episodes ago, when he was choosing peace? He was happy, joyful, calm. Serene.
I also think Rick feels useless and has no idea what to do w himself.
