🕊️ 206 years ago today, peaceful protesters demanding democracy were brutally cut down at Peterloo.
We remember the sacrifice of those who marched from Oldham & beyond.
Their struggle laid the foundations of our rights today.
Tonight’s vote is a step towards safer homes, stronger communities, and a planning system that listens to residents.
We’re putting Oldham people first. 👊

Tonight at a meeting of Oldham Council, we took action to clamp down on unregulated HMOs. 🏘️
These small, often unlicensed properties can lead to unsafe living conditions and disrupt our communities. Here’s what we did ⬇️
Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, added:
“We won’t sit back while vulnerable residents are exploited or communities overwhelmed. This is about restoring control to local people and putting decent housing standards first.”

Saddleworth's Councillors voted to withdraw from Places for Everyone opening up all of our greenbelt to developers
Contributions at Council meeting sounded like they haven't read the plan - it does include infrastructure & building on all brownfield
Shameful
The absolute brass neck of a Lib Dem councillor telling @shah_arooj to just ask the Deputy Prime Minister to “throw it (the letter) in the bin” after the council voted to request that Oldham be taken out of the plan is astounding
🚨🚨LIST OF SHAME🚨🚨
Below is a list of the councillors who voted to withdraw from Places for Everyone and threaten OPOL and Greenbelt land across the borough.
These councillors know full well that removing Oldham from Places for Everyone will lead to developers getting free reign, just like they have in Lib Dem run Stockport.
