@restisc0nfetti@cfuchstv exactly! i wanted to include so much more, including the allie storyline. however i only had so much space in a twitter thread. i honestly feel as if i could write a full thesis on this.
Yellowjackets takes the experiences of girlhood and contextualizes it to where the feelings are equivalent to that of the horrors and depravity that is the existence of being a girl.
While cannibalistic cults are not a traditional part of girlhood, it is a representation of the experience. Being a teenage girl feels as if you are in the wilderness attempting to survive. You are trapped and are forced to survive, even if it means burning everything around you.
"The plane crash serves as a catalyst for a new social hierarchy to form, and the trials of the woods are metaphors for the tumultuous transition between childhood and adulthood."

i have narrowed my yellowjackets research down to be focused on its representation of girlhood. here is an article relating to the prevalence of the word girl in 2023 and how it is being used!

thought i would share the florence and the machine cover of “i’m just a girl” that was made for yellowjackets. i think the song really encapsulates the tone of the show and the importance that teenage girlhood has in the story.

this quote of “teenage friendships, in all their gory.” coincides with my exploration of the representation of teenage girlhood in yellowjackets

"I think people have created art to express the existential dread rooted at the center of girlhood and growing up."
