It's true that football was born as a form of popular association, sustained by ultras groups, chants and a shared sense of identity.

It was also the birthplace of countless urban subcultures, or at least a place where they found a home. I belonged to some of them. I saw where it all led.

That's why I can say that football is, in many ways, practically dead. And that's why we should all be against modern football.

Today, the phrase "football belongs to the fans" sounds either like nostalgia from supporters or a marketing slogan recycled by another multinational corporation. Those are the only contexts in which I ever hear it.

Football is dying because the game is governed by institutions like FIFA, comfortably headquartered in the bourgeois tranquillity of Zurich, treating football less as a culture than as a commercial product saturated with sponsorships and corporate interests.

Football was stolen from us.

But if you still want to find what remains of it, support your local team.

my current general principle of ai:

ai gets you roughly 2/3rds of the way to a good result on almost any cognitive task.

that final third is where taste, judgment, iteration, domain expertise, & originality compound.

today the last third is where almost all the value lives. as the models get better & better, the last third will shrink to ~zero & then possibly negative.
