I want to thank all those who participated in the local council elections nationwide.

The turnout was tremendous. At Wiodyek A village, Wiodyek Sub-county, where I voted, people turned out in large numbers, eager to elect their chairperson.

Local council leaders form the foundation of grassroots governance, connecting local communities directly to the central government. They maintain village security, resolve local disputes, mobilize residents for development programs, and ensure public accountability at the community level.

I am happy that our mighty party, the @NRMOnline , won by a landslide in major parts of the country.

Today, I held a briefing meeting with the leadership of Moroto district and Municipality regarding the guidelines for the distribution of food relief to households affected by the recent crop failure and famine.

The Government has delivered sufficient food supplies for all 24,707 affected households across both the district and the municipality. To ensure swift delivery, I directed that the distribution process commence immediately, with support from the UPDF, Uganda Police, NEC, Uganda Prisons Service, and ASTU to facilitate transport and logistics.

During our discussions, local leaders raised valid concerns regarding inaccuracies and discrepancies in the baseline data used to identify beneficiaries. The figures from the National Population and Housing Census, Village Health Teams (VHTs), and the Electoral Commission do not fully align with the reality on the ground. However, to prevent any unnecessary delays in saving lives, I directed that distribution proceed using the available data at hand.

To address this gap long-term, the local leaders and I urge the people of Karamoja to turn out in large numbers during upcoming national population censuses and household surveys. Accurate data capture is essential for proper government planning and fair resource allocation.

I appealed to all area leaders including Members of Parliament, LC V Chairpersons, Councilors, and local technocrats to be on the ground to oversee and supervise the distribution exercise to ensure transparency.

Finally, I express my sincere gratitude to H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni , the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister @R_Nabbanja , and the Cabinet for keeping the people of Karamoja at heart and prioritizing this vital food relief intervention.

Today, we convened a meeting with leaders from the districts of Napak, Nabilatuk, Amudat, and Nakapiripirit at the Nakapiripirit district headquarters to brief them on the distribution criteria for food relief across all nine districts of Karamoja.

During the meeting, I informed the leaders and stakeholders that under the guidance of H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni, the @GovUganda delivered food relief to the starving population of Karamoja in less than two weeks from the time the issue was brought to its attention, a swift response that earned well-deserved applause.

To date, food deliveries across the region stand as follows:

Napak: 835,020 kg of posho and 417,510 kg of beans

Kaabong: 874,640 kg of posho and 437,320 kg of beans

Kotido: 912,420 kg of posho and 456,210 kg of beans

Moroto: 520,940 kg of posho and 260,470 kg of beans

Nabilatuk: 565,320 kg of posho and 282,660 kg of beans

Amudat: 846,200 kg of posho and 423,100 kg of beans

Nakapiripirit: 539,680 kg of posho and 269,840 kg of beans

Karenga: 386,680 kg of posho and 193,340 kg of beans

Abim: 798,840 kg of posho and 399,420 kg of beans

Our target is to support 41,701 households in Napak, 28,266 in Nabilatuk, 42,310 in Amudat, and 26,984 in Nakapiripirit district. These figures are based on data from the 2024 National Population and Housing Census conducted by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS).

While these deliveries are designed to address the immediate crisis, the government is actively developing long-term interventions to empower the people of Karamoja to become self-reliant and ultimately transform the region into a major food hub for the country.

I emphasized that local leaders must remain actively engaged on the ground to supervise the security forces tasked by President @KagutaMuseveni with distributing food at all parish headquarters, ensuring that no household is left behind.

We held a meeting with the World Food Programme (WFP), led by WFP Country Director and Representative to Uganda, Ms. Wanja Kaaria-Ndoho, alongside other key stakeholders at the Kotido district headquarters to discuss the ongoing government interventions of providing food relief to vulnerable families and establishing effective and equitable strategies to support those affected by the hunger crisis.

District and municipal leaders expressed gratitude to the government for its swift response in delivering food supplies while noting that current allocations remain insufficient for larger households.

In her remarks, Ms. Kaaria-Ndoho commended the government’s timely actions and reaffirmed WFP’s solidarity with Karamoja, a region they have supported for over six decades. Crucially, WFP is mobilizing development partners and donor funding for a coordinated response, repurposing resources toward life-saving interventions.

I highlighted that while immediate food relief is critical, it remains a short-term measure. We are collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture on sustainable, long-term solutions specifically investing in irrigation schemes, valley dams, grain silos, and drought-resistant crops. These initiatives aim to build community resilience, boost crop and livestock production, and ultimately transform Karamoja into a self-sufficient food basket capable of supplying other regions, moving away from annual relief dependency.

I also encouraged the people of Karamoja to actively participate in available government poverty-alleviation programs to bolster their financial well-being.

Finally, I commended Kotido district LC V Chairperson Paul Lotee Komol, the RDC, area Members of Parliament, Minister for Karamoja Affairs @JohnBaptistLoki , and Minister of State Esther Davina Anyakun for their steadfast support. I particularly praised their firm commitment to combating corruption, ensuring that development resources reach their intended beneficiaries.

I am here in Kaabong district today to officially launch the distribution of over one million kilograms of food relief across the region.

As agreed by the government, this exercise will ensure that vulnerable families receive 10 kg of beans and 20 kg of posho every month for the next two months.

This food is clearly labeled 'Government of Uganda NOT FOR SALE,' Any individual or official caught selling or buying these supplies will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

This vital support will sustain our people as they prepare to cultivate their fields during the upcoming second rainy season.

On behalf of the @GovUganda , I want to express my deepest gratitude to His Excellency President @KagutaMuseveni and the Cabinet for approving UGX 45 billion from the contingency fund to procure this relief for our people in need.

I also sincerely thank our security forces for their continuous support in maintaining order and safety throughout this distribution process.

Karamoja affairs minister Hon John Baptist Lokii, state minister Esther @EstherAnyakun , @MODVA_UPDF 3rd Division commander and other sister security forces are here to support this exercise.

I addressed a meeting of NRM leaders of Lango today at St. Lira Hotel to discuss our internal preparations ahead of the local council elections.

During the meeting, I called upon our party leaders and supporters to actively mobilize people to vote for NRM candidates to occupy local council offices and to consolidate our grassroots support.

I tasked our party leaders to go back to their respective jurisdictions and convene meetings so that we can internally prepare well ahead of the elections, in addition to strengthening our ground support for easy monitoring of government programs.

We assured, as NRM leaders and elected leaders under the NRM party ticket, that we will do everything possible to ensure that Lango gets the best services from the government.

The government has scheduled to elect representatives for the offices of Local Council 1 and Local Council 2 on 28 July 2026 and 10 August 2026, respectively.

Among the notable stakeholders who attended the meeting were our NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, the Director of External Affairs of the NRM, Maj. (Rtd.) Pollar Awich, MPs, the Lira RCC, RDCs, the Lira City Mayor, LC V chairpersons, NRM district chairpersons, Administrative Secretaries, and district internal security officers, among others.

It was a profound honor on Saturday to host the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, my sister @R_Nabbanja , who ably represented His Excellency President @KagutaMuseveni at my thanksgiving prayer held at Olilo Primary School in Itek Sub-county, Lira District.

​This day marks a deeply special milestone in my life. It has given us the joy to celebrate the hard work, resilience, and immense trust exhibited by the people of Erute South constituency, who voted overwhelmingly for me to represent them for the next five years of service.

Without their dedication and unwavering spirit of Ubuntu, it would not have been possible for the President to consider me for appointment to the Cabinet as the Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees. In all of this, my family and I give ultimate glory to God for His abundant blessings.

​I remain firmly committed to selfless service, ensuring that Erute South, Lira District, Lango, and Uganda at large receive the transformation and services they truly deserve from the government.

Key to my agenda is championing the cattle restocking program, improving the road network, expanding electricity coverage for both rural and urban centers, uplifting educational performance, enhancing healthcare delivery, and driving other critical government programs aimed at eradicating poverty.
