Decades of research demonstrate that even minor interactions with law enforcement or the criminal legal systems can cause long-term harm to young people. These interactions have a defining impact on a student’s academic performance and mental health.

Earlier this year, Assemblymember @ash_kalra introduced a new California bill (#AB2441) aimed at transforming school discipline in the state!

If passed and signed into law #AB2441 will bring change to support students to thrive in schools by:

✏️ Eliminating outdated state mandates for school notification to law enforcement for certain student behavioral issues.

✏️ Decreasing law enforcement involvement in student behavioral issues at school, this will ensure California law is closer aligned with federal law

✏️ Empowering schools to implement supportive, trauma-informed approaches that prioritize student well-being over punishment.
