Despite how it looks from the outside, Canada can be a deeply frustrating place for young, ambitious people.

It genuinely saddens me to write this because I love this country deeply. I’ve traveled coast to coast with my dog simply to experience as much of Canada as I could.

I’ve been here for ~8 years. I earned a PhD from one of the country’s top universities (University of Toronto), worked legally throughout my studies, now working at the frontier of science and technology pay more in taxes than the median Canadian earns in income.

My status? Still a work-permit holder, sitting in the Express Entry pool with no clear path or timeline to permanent residency. At the current pace, it could still take years.

And I know I’m far from alone.

If this is how Canada treats the people it says it wants to attract and retain, something is fundamentally misaligned.

Who is designing these incentives? And are policymakers even aware of the people the current system is pushing away? @MarkJCarney @LenaMetlegeDiab

The most important technology problem of the next 5 years:

Creating a broadly accepted standard for agents to identify themselves to service providers, so that providers can adjust the way they interface with clients (as compared to human-based traffic).

In the interim (i.e., for the next 6 months), there will be a cat-and-mouse game that agents will play -- to circumvent detection and maintain their product's utility during this growth phase.

However, this will only be a stopgap and it will not be the terminal state of the world.

In Lagos, you can't even rent a decent room self con for anything less than a million naira whilst battling a community filled with dirts, trash, and traffic but you say your Governor must know how to speak Yoruba. Back in 2014, there was a man who was already aware of the irregularities involving Manchester City. That man now runs FIFA. The infamous Gianni Infantino, then UEFA General Secretary, abused his authority, shared confidential documents and, in short, outmanoeuvred the Investigatory Chamber, doing everything in his power to ensure that both Manchester City and PSG would merely receive a fine, avoiding a deeper investigation that could have led to a Champions League ban. All of these details were also revealed through Football Leaks.
Given his actions as UEFA General Secretary and, more recently, as FIFA President, I can only say, in my humble opinion, that Gianni Infantino has become a cancer on football and should have no place in the future of the game.
