@olsonplanner What type of rotations (in patient/ out patient/ private practice) are available. Also PSLF isn’t always a guarantee since he doesn’t know what program he’ll match into (might not qualify for it). Overall I’d choose the school better clinical education opportunities.
@olsonplanner I’d also say it depends on the clinical opportunities in 3rd and 4th year. Just because the dream school is private does not mean that opportunities for collaboration with residents, researches, and academic environments is guaranteed. The student should inquire about 1
@ani_cdotes I would if it’s a program you really want to go to. If you make a good impression it’s more likely that the program director and residents will want to rank you higher. I’m sure they would want to bet on someone they’ve worked with.
A VERY long shot…but if anyone was on flight BA177 from Heathrow to JFK yesterday (Tues 4 April) at 1.10pm and landing at 3.30pm and found this little fella, there’s a distraught little boy who would love to be reunited with him. Get in touch if you can help. Thanks
@TweetingDrE Then after maybe a year or two, you apply to residency to the specialty of your choice. To do this in the US would obviously require huge overhaul of the educational system and major restructuring. But your idea is not wrong!
@TweetingDrE In most other countries this is the standard model. There is no undergrad, med school is 6 years and intern year is part of medical school. After graduation most people work as general practitioner (some countries have you be the head doc of a small rural/underserved clinic) 1/2
Absolutely thrilled to have accepted a prelim surgery spot at an amazing program!
This week has been a terrible roller coaster but I’ve also been so overwhelmed with all the love, support, and guidance I’ve received.
Good luck to everyone still waiting. #SOAP23#Match2023
So no we are hiring doctors to be scribes/medical assistants just because you want to take advantage of someone in a vulnerable position? Not okay at all…
I think one of the hardest things about not matching is the inundation of very well intentioned people telling you to apply to other specialties.
I so appreciate any advice, but I refuse to let this bump derail me.
I’m meant to be a surgeon. I will be a surgeon. #SOAP2023
A dream come true!! ✨ I’m going to be a dermatologist!!! #Match2023#dermatology#dermtwitter
It feels unreal, truly so grateful and blessed. Thank you to everyone who believed in me and supported me in my journey, WE did it! 🙏🏽 excited to begin my career!
I see so many students worn out by the competition in medical school. Seems so much worse than when I was in school. I wish it could be different. Wish students could learn to look after their patients and not worry about honors, evaluations, class rank.
@ShermieMD I think some of these attitudes in health care professionals need to change. Im sure patients are not out to screw your day 🤦🏽♂️ sorry that you had a sassy encounter from that healthcare professional.
@ShermieMD Today a patient I saw in the ED told me her husband was scolded by the on call urologist for trying to bypass the system by getting admitted. Her husband had gross hematuria, elevated wbc count, a fever, and flank pain… why is a 70+yo couple getting “scolded”
@DavidBroderDO@AOAforDOs And each block gives you less time than USMLE to answer each question since there are 44 questions per block vs 40 on USMLE. It’s not an equal exam and I wish for future generations that they would only have to study for one.
@DavidBroderDO@AOAforDOs I took both COMLEX and USMLE for level 1/ step 1. When I found out most family med programs would take COMLEX, I only did level 2. COMLEX was still a poorly written exam in both occasions with many questions repeated almost verbatim. COMLEX almost seemed unfair 1/
