Giving you a loan you can’t repay is akin to slavery.

Student loans exist in the West, but you’re not left to figure them out alone. In the US, from the day you become a student until graduation, your school will continuously send job opportunities from various organizations that have partnered with the school.

Whether it’s full-time, part-time, or paid internships, there’s something you might be interested in, so that before you graduate, you’ll have jobs lined up for you. They also teach you how to write a resume and attend job interviews.

According to NACE’s First Destinations for the College Class of 2024 report, approximately 86% of bachelor’s degree graduates and 89% of master’s degree grads from the Class of 2024 were employed or enrolled in further education within six months of graduation.

Those who couldn’t get jobs get a loan freeze for a while, or a lower monthly repayment arrangement they can afford.

Unemployment is extremely high in Nigeria, and much higher than the graduation rate, so while it may be tempting to take the loan, consider the consequences if you can’t repay it.

I am not discouraging you from taking a loan to improve your education, but you should pay attention to what you are getting into. Check your contract!
