I remember back in 2014 during my SIWES at GTBank. We got our offer letters at 635 Akin Adesola, and like they always say, “address everyone by their first name.”

Fast forward to the branch we were posted to in Ikeja… one of the girls we resumed with casually called the Operations Head “Shalewa.” 😂

In my head I was like, “Ah… can’t you apply small wisdom?”

That woman dealt with her throughout the entire program.

A lot of you need to always remember this is Nigeria. Corporate policies are one thing, but culture and respect still matter a lot. Anywhere you find yourself, read the room and apply sense.

Nigerian orgs need to be true to themselves. Many went all in adopting western culture like first-name basis as policy, knowing fully well that it doesn't sit well in our culture. I've seen how this caused friction and confusion. We should learn from the Asians.

Many Anglican priests in the UK left the Anglican Church when they started conducting weddings for gay couples and joined the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church accepted them and, after a period of training, ordained them as Catholic priests, even though they were married.

My local Catholic priest where my London home is was a married former Anglican priest who converted to Catholicism.

So, celibacy in the Catholic Church is not a doctrine. It is just discipline. Those who cannot keep discipline, even if you let them marry, will still engage in sexual immorality.
