The basis of a rugby game is simple: two teams compete to score more points by carrying, passing, or kicking the ball into the opponent's territory and over their goal line.

Basic Rules

A standard rugby team has 15 players in Rugby Union (or 13 in Rugby League).

Players can run with the ball, kick it, or pass it backward to teammates.

Forward passes are not allowed.

The opposing team tries to stop the ball carrier through tackling.

After a tackle, play continues through contests such as rucks, mauls, scrums, and lineouts.

Scoring

Try – 5 points (grounding the ball over the opponent's goal line).

Conversion – 2 points (kick after a try).

Penalty Kick – 3 points.

Drop Goal – 3 points.

Duration

A match lasts 80 minutes, divided into two 40-minute halves.

Main Objective

The objective is to gain territory, maintain possession, and score tries while preventing the opposition from doing the same.

Rugby is known for its combination of strength, speed, teamwork, and tactical kicking, making it one of the most physically demanding team sports in the world.
