A service called ISBNdb facilitates orders of up to a million books and keeps buyers anonymous. Pre-2022 books are premium because they're free of AI-generated text. A federal judge ruled the practice is fair use because eliminating the original means only one copy exists at a time. Anthropic hired the former head of Google Books partnerships to obtain "all the books in the world."

My Take
This got to me. A bookseller told 404 Media that rare books with almost no surviving copies are being fed into this pipeline. Books that survived wars, fires, and centuries of handling are being shredded so an AI can learn to write a better marketing email.
ISBNdb's website literally says "'AI company destroys two million books' is not a headline that generates sympathy," and they still built an entire business around making it happen quietly. They offer NDAs as a feature. They coach clients to call it "digital preservation."

I've covered AI companies scraping the internet, torrenting libraries, and stealing music. This is worse because it's irreversible. You can re-upload a website. You can reprint a bestseller. You can't replace the last three copies of an 18th-century botanical text once someone shreds them for training data. And the judge said it's legal. So it's going to accelerate.
"We shred rare books and offer NDAs so nobody finds out" is a legitimate business model in 2026. What a timeline.

#Digitisation of #LandRecords has been an unmitigated disaster for all except: IT firms, revenue officials, lawyers, politicians and land mafia. Insidious, quiet, but massive land grabbing has become the norm.
I have been associated with land administration for decades and I am horrified by the results, whereas the governments seem thrilled with the monster they created!
I request all to amplify this national calamity created by insane technology application driven by greed and absolute ignorance of land administration.
I am appealing to @PMOIndia and all #ChiefMinisters to stall the digitisation process and constitute a committee of experts - not bureaucrats/ IT professionals - for establishing impeccable guardrails for comprehensive overhaul of land administration systems and institutions before embarking on digitisation. In the interim, restore pre-digital manual land records, duly updated.
If I, former chief secretary, cannot get handle over my own family land records, I dread to imagine the plight of illiterate/ semi-literate landowner.

Traditional indigenous religions (termed 'Animism' in western demographic studies) had a majority status in 24 countries in 1950 - mostly in parts of Africa - but by 2015 no country had 'Animism' as a majority religion anymore. AI has dramatically accelerated how software is written. But speed was never the real bottleneck.

Despite LLMs, The Mythical Man-Month is still surprisingly relevant. Not because of how code is produced, but because of what actually slows software down: coordination, shared understanding, and conceptual integrity.

AI makes code cheap. It does not make software design, architecture, integration, or alignment free.

In fact, faster code generation can amplify old problems:
* Incoherent abstractions appear sooner
* Integration costs surface later
* “We’re almost done” illusions become stronger

What matters more than ever is strong architecture, clear intent, and technical leadership. The modern leverage point is not the fastest coder, but the person who can frame problems well, guide AI output, and preserve system coherence.

A modern version of Brooks’ Law might be: "Adding more AI to a late or poorly defined project makes it confusing faster."

AI changes the tools. It doesn’t repeal the laws of software engineering.
