When he got back, guess who was appointed on the chair of Applied Psychology and Psycho Technique at Stellenbosch University? Six years later, he became Professor of Sociology and Social Work.

Social work exposed him to politics, but first the next machine he went to study and master: media and propaganda.
He was the very first editor of Die Transvaler, a publication that thrived on populism and protectionism under the guise of reporting on the “sentiments of most South Africans”.

Elections 1948. MP. First post: Minister of Native Affairs under Malan. It’s the only ministerial post he held in that government until he became Prime Minister in 1958. Between 1950 and 1953, he drafted 32 (THIRTY TWO) bills related to Native Affairs. In 8 years, he implemented all of them and more.
Next stop: the big office at the Union Buildings and the rest is history…
